Singer Usher spent his weekend in Mexico as a groomesmen in fellow singer Robin Thicke’s wedding.
Thicke married his long time model fiancée April Love Geary in a lavish ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on Friday, May 30, according to PEOPLE. The two were engaged for years before tying the knot.
The singer’s 15-year-old son, Julian, whom he shares with his ex-wife Paula Patton, also served as a groomesman for his father’s big day.
In addition, Thicke paid tribute to his late father Alan Thicke with an empty chair that was decorated with a banner, per PEOPLE.
“In loving memory of Alan Thicke, Father of the groom,” it read. “Although you cannot be here with us today, your love and light remain in our hearts.”
Usher & Thicke Have Collaborated Over the Years
Usher and Thicke have been friends for over 20 years and frequently collaborate together.
While Thicke appeared on a April 2023 podcast of “We In Miami,” he dished on how the two became instant friends. The “Blurred Lines” singer even decided to FaceTime the singer and had a brief conversation on air.
“Well, we became instant friends. We just really both love music, and we had the same influences growing up,” Thicke told the hosts. “He’s just a really sweet, kind human being.”
Thicke wrote “Can U Handle It?” off of Usher’s 2004 album “Confessions” album and received a writing and producing credit for it. The two also were featured together on Quincey Jones’ “The Secret Garden” back in 2010.
Academy Award winner Leo DiCaprio and comedian Ken Jeong were also in attendance for the nuptials, according to TMZ.
Thicke & Geary Have Been Together Over 10 Years
Thicke and Geary first got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2018. “YES YES 1000x YES,” the now 30-year-old wrote at the time.
After years of being engaged, Thicke proposed for a second time with a new ring for Geary, just days before they wed in Mexico. The second engagement happened while the duo went to Cannes, France.
“Robin surprised me during our trip to Cannes by proposing to me again with a new ring that one of my best friends made,” she wrote. “I’m so obsessed with it, thank you!!!”
The couple share three children together — Mia Love, Lola Alain and Luca Patrick. The couple had their son Luca serve as the ring bearer and had him walk down the aisle holding a box with the writing “ring security” on it, according to the New York Post.
