Whether there’s a surprise drop, a concert performance, or the celebration of an artist, music is the backbone of society.
Here’s everything you should be listening to this weekend.
Tyler Childers – “Snipe Hunter”
Blending honky-tonk with a guitar meant for modern day country, Tyler Childers comes out hard with his seventh album. There’s no holding back as the singer sharply curses and or prods through each song. He doesn’t care if you want to hear him or not. But you will hear him. There’s a chance you’ve already swayed to the lead single “Oneida.” Perhaps “Nose On The Grindstone” made you reminisce about a time when you needed to buckle down to focus. Whether you’re sipping whiskey or taking it down, “Snipe Hunt” is for any country fan.
Patty Griffin – “Crown of Roses”
11 albums in and Patty Griffin is still making Americana sound fresh. “Crown of Roses” is an album full of the singer at her best. There’s a lingering feeling of “want” surrounding some of the songs. The eerie singing in “The End” is haunting while the story is enticing. Meanwhile, Griffin channels her inner Johnny Cash with “Back at the Start.” What’s also interesting is the artwork where an uncolored photo of Griffin’s late mother is surrounded by a field of flowers.
Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist – “Alfredo 2”
Fans of The Alchemist’s production will not be surprised at the quality of this new collaboration album with Freddie Gibbs. This is the third effort the two have released with the second one having been released five years prior. With guest appearances by JID and Anderson .Paak, any hip hop fan will assuredly enjoy this short and smooth project.
Indigo De Souza – “Precipice”
Walking the line between indie rock and indie pop, Indigo De Souza is a treat to the ears. Her music is wondrous and dancy, even if the lyrics paint a darker picture than the beat itself. The singer’s fourth album comes with a sense of confidence that previous efforts have less of. That’s not to say De Souza was ever wanting for more self assuredness. What’s in “Precipice” is like a splash of espresso in your half full coffee cup at your local coffee shop. It feels good to listen and subsequently extrapolate what’s being sung.
Madonna – “Veronica Electronica”
Madonna. Remix album. The end. That’s all fans need to know about the Queen of Pop’s latest effort. While it’s not new music – the singer hasn’t put out a new record since 2019’s “Madame X” – it’s always lovely to hear her music in a different light. What’s here is enough to satiate any dancers who want to shut their eyes and move to the beat.
