Tanner Usrey has built his reputation on grit. As a musician who has blended country with southern rock and a bit of folk music, his live shows aren’t exactly meant to be quiet affairs. They’re the kind of nights where the amps shake the floor and the crowd leaves hoarse from singing along.
But after a recent show with Cody Jinks, a fan decided the decibels crossed the line and let Usrey know it; heading straight to social media. That sparked a response from the man himself… and a whole lot of opinions from other fans.

The Fan Comment and Usrey’ Reply
It all kicked off when a fan tagged Usrey (and Jinks) on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote: “respectfully, your concert tonight is way to loud. Shouldn’t have to yell at the person next to me while I am 500 ft from the stage.”
Now, most artists might let a comment like that slide. But Usrey? Not a chance. He replied back with this post:
That’s about as Usrey as it gets; sarcastic, unapologetic, and tossing in a link to the definition of rock and roll for good measure. Loud music is kind of the point, after all.
More Fans Talk Concert Etiquette
As soon as the exchange started making the rounds, fans jumped in with their own two cents. A lot of people sided with Usrey, saying concerts just aren’t the place for chatting it up. One fan admitted, “I hate it when people want to talk through a show!” Another chimed in with, “Ummm. Maybe try going to a concert to respectfully listen to the artist???”
That sentiment kept rolling. Someone else wrote, “I have never understood why people would spend good money to have a conversation during a show that they can have in the car on the way home.” For them, the complaint wasn’t just about noise… it was about missing the whole point of a live show.
Even fellow musician Charlie Stout jumped into the mix:
But not every reply leaned the same way. One fan took a more understanding approach, pointing out “that some folks are more sensitive to the volume than others, and I can appreciate that.” Still, they managed to turn it into a love letter to live music, writing, “But honestly, to me, a loud concert means the band’s really putting their heart and soul into it. It’s like they’re saying, ‘We’re here, we’re loud, and we’re gonna make you feel something.’ And isn’t that what music’s all about at the end of the day?”
And really, that might be the best summary of the whole back-and-forth.
Usrey’ quick-witted response wasn’t just a defense; it was a reminder of what fans actually show up for. Country rock isn’t supposed to whisper. It’s supposed to fill the space, rattle your bones, and maybe even make you yell to be heard over it all.
For most of the crowd, that’s not a complaint. That’s the magic.
Tanner Usrey’s current tour, “Bad Love” continues in multiple cities through November.
