Selena Gomez Reveals What Inspired Her Single ‘Sunset Blvd’ From New Album

Selena Gomez is dropping her new album, “I Said I Love You First,” with her fiancé Benny Blanco on March 21, and she revealed the story behind the song, “Sunset Blvd.”

“Our first date was on Sunset Blvd, and it’s also the title of our next song together. Sunset Blvd out March 14 with @itsbennyblanco,” Gomez shared in a March 11 Instagram post.

The black-and-white picture shows her cuddling with Blanco with a blanket over them, and she added in the caption, “P.S. this is our first official photo together.” Blanco replied in the post, “ur my cherry pie.”

In December 2024, Gomez hinted in a conversation with Saoirse Ronan published by Variety that she was putting music on the back burner. “I love storytelling, and my music career is separate. However, I don’t see that being a forever thing,” the “Only Murders in the Building” actor said.

The statement proved to be a ruse, and on February 13, Gomez posted on Instagram, “I always trick you guys. [My] NEW album I Said I Love You First with my best friend @itsbennyblanco, is out on 3/21. Our first song, Scared of Loving You is out now on all streaming platforms.”

“This album came together organically as a direct result of the comfort that they both felt when working together creatively, allowing them to produce art that authentically reflects their experiences.”

The statement concluded, “It chronicles their entire story — before they met, falling in love, and looking to what the future holds.”

“I Said I Love You First” has 14 tracks, which includes songs, “I Can’t Get Enough,” “Scared Of Loving You,” and “Bluest Flame.”

Gomez and Blanco revealed how they met years ago in their first joint interview. “I was around 16, 17,” Gomez recalled to Interview in an article published on Valentine’s Day.

Blanco added, “And we first had music come out in 2013 or something. Her mom set up a meeting between the two of us. This is right when I became big and she wasn’t a singer yet.”

The former Disney star revealed that her feelings for Blanco blossomed as soon as they started working in the studio together. “I liked him before he liked me,” she told Interview. However, Blanco said he had no idea how Gomez felt and even offered to set her up with his friends.

The two went out to dinner, with Gomez thinking they were on a date but the record producer still had no clue until it finally clicked that she may like him, he told the outlet. “The second time we hung out, our second date, I was like, ‘Wait, does she like me?’ I was clueless. From then on, it was easy,” he shared.

Once he realized that a relationship with Gomez was possible, he couldn’t deny his feelings. “The second we started hanging out, I was like, ‘This is my wife.’ I was telling my mom, ‘This is the girl I’m going to marry,’” he told Interview.

Gomez often shares how happy she is with Blanco and said to CBS Sunday Morning in November 2024 about their relationship, “It brings me a joy. And more than anything, he’s just my best friend, and I’m really, really lucky.”
