The music industry is in mourning as the sad news of David Roach’s passing has been confirmed. David was best known as the lead singer of the East Hollywood band Junkyard. David Roach was 59 when he passed following a battle with cancer.
According to Billboard, the Junkyard social media accounts confirmed the sad news on August 2 that David Roach had passed away. The post stated, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Roach.”
The social media post continued, “After a courageous battle with cancer, David passed away peacefully last night at home, in the loving arms of his wife. He was a gifted artist, performer, songwriter, and singer—but above all, a devoted father, husband, and brother.”
His bandmates concluded by saying, “Our thoughts are with the entire Roach family and everyone who loved him.”
Tributes Are Pouring in for David Roach Following His Passing
David and the rest of the founding members of Junkyard became active in 1987. Because of this, they have a loyal fanbase, which means many are taking to social media to tribute his legacy. One person on X, Jaco Marley X, simply posted a photo of David and captioned it, “R.I.P. Junkyard Vocalist David Roach.”
A person who posts under the name 138Tiger shared a photo of themselves with David. They wrote, “Me, David Roach from Junkyard, and my brother. RIP, my wonderful friend.”
The Black Velvet Rock Magazine account posted, “R.I.P. David Roach (Junkyard). Sad to hear that David has passed away following a battle with cancer.”
Finally, the KNAC X account stated, “Our thoughts and prayers go to David Roach’s family and friends. The lead singer of Junkyard fought hard, but cancer was too much. We love you, brother. You will always be “Hollywood”
He Leaves Behind a Massive Legacy
According to Billboard, David Roach was originally from Austin, Texas. He helped form Junkyard in 1987, and the group released its self-titled debut album two years later. The album peaked at 105 and included the singles “Hollywood,” “Blooze,” and “Simple Man.”
David and the rest of the Junkyard members broke up in 1992 after releasing their second album. Their shelved third album was released independently in 1998, and the group reformed the following year. Junkyard performed often and even issued a new studio album, “High Water,” in 2017. Notably, it reached the top 25 of Billboard’s Hard Rock Album Sales Chart.
Sadly, the group announced in March 2025 that David Roach had been dealing with “aggressive squamous cell carcinoma affecting his head, neck, and throat.” He will be missed.
