Country Legend Randy Travis Has ‘Greatly Improved’ Since Stroke: Report

Country singing legend Randy Travis has made a lot of progress since he suffered a stroke more than a decade ago.

People reported that Travis suffered a stroke in 2013 and that, at that time, his wife, Mary, said it damaged the portion of his brain dealing with “speaking, writing and reading.”

According to People, today Travis’s “ability to walk and speak has greatly improved since his initial diagnosis in 2013, but he still uses a walker or a wheelchair to get around.” His wife “also assists him” when he needs to speak publicly, People reported.

“Travis can be seen without his wheelchair at times but still needs it for mobility,” The Tennessean noted.

In 2024, Travis released new music, “Where That Came From,” but it was recorded with AI, according to The Associated Press.

According to that site, Mary Travis told The Associated Press that Cris Lacy, Warner Music Nashville co-president, asked: “What if we could take Randy’s voice and recreate it using AI? Well, we were all over that, so we were so excited.”

“All I ever wanted since the day of a stroke was to hear that voice again,” she told AP.

“Randy, I remember watching him when he first heard the song after it was completed. It was beautiful because at first, he was surprised, and then he was very pensive, and he was listening and studying,” she said. “And then he put his head down and his eyes were a little watery. I think he went through every emotion there was, in those three minutes of just hearing his voice again,” Mary Travis told AP.
