Punk Rock Pioneer Passes Away & Tributes Pour In

Punk rock is one of the most widely listened to genres of music. Sadly, Jock McDonald, who was primarily known in the UK, has passed away. Jock was one of the founding members of The Bullock Brothers, which was founded in 1979 and released several cover songs as well as original music.

McDonald passed away in Bundoran, Ireland, on July 26 from an accidental drowning. According to The Sun, Pat Pattyn, the drummer for The Bullock Brothers, confirmed the tragic news. He said, “It is with great sadness in my heart, I have to bring you this terrible news.”

Pat’s social media post continued, “Sadly, our singer Jock McDonald has died in Ireland, apparently a freak swimming accident. His children asked me to tell you all via this way. His family and all the Bollock Brothers are in shock. We are going to try and give this a place, but that won’t be easy.”

He then said, “Please don’t try to call us today, give us some time, please. Rest in peace, my friend. I will miss you.”

Tributes to Jock McDonald Are Pouring in From Fans All Over the World

As mentioned, Jock McDonald and The Bullock Brothers band became active in the music industry in the late 1970s. Because of this, they built up a relatively large following among punk rock fans, particularly in the UK. Naturally, many are taking to social media to pay tribute to the frontman.

Dylan White on X is one of the fans to offer kind words to the legacy of Jock McDonald. They wrote, “So sad to hear about the sudden passing of #JockMcDonald. I had the pleasure of interviewing Jock on @sohoradio doing the @GCPunkNewWave show. Pic is of Richard Collins from The Bollock Brothers, myself, and Jock R.I.P.

Charly Records, which is the record label Jock McDonald was signed to, also offers condolences. They wrote on their X account, “Charly Records are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jock McDonald, founding member of The Bollock Brothers. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Jock.”

John Williamson wrote, “Still devastated by the news of Jock McDonald’s passing. RIP my friend.”

The Bullock Brothers Made a Mark on the World of UK Punk Rock
