The world of music lost an icon in July 2025 when “Black Sabbath” frontman Ozzy Osbourne passed away at age 76. Tributes poured in from fans and fellow artists for weeks after his death, and his family laid him to rest in his native U.K. As Page Six reported on August 6, his recently released death certificate lists the perfect occupation.
Osbourne is described as a “songwriter, performer, and rock legend” on his death certificate, a title reflective of his unforgettable contributions to music. The document also revealed that Osbourne passed away from a heart attack. The singer wowed fans for nearly six decades, and his music will undoubtedly live on.
Osbourne Stepped into the Spotlight in His Youth

Music was a part of Osbourne’s life from a very early age. Black Sabbath released their debut album in 1970, after Osbourne had already been performing in local bands as a teen in the 1960s. As the band’s official website notes, they recorded the album in just one session. The band enjoyed stunning success throughout the 1970s, until Osbourne struck out on his own in 1978.
The singer also found success as a soloist, with hits like “Mama, I’m Coming Home” further cementing his place in rock history. In 2022, he spoke to People about his career and what he felt his legacy would be. “I mean, survival is my legacy,” he said. “Never give up if you’ve got a passion for something.”
The Rocker’s Final Concert Was a Fitting Send-Off

On July 5, 2025, just weeks before his tragic passing, Osbourne appeared for his last-ever concert with Black Sabbath. The event, “Back to the Beginning,” featured some of the biggest stars in rock music and plenty of heartfelt tributes to Osbourne. Metallic, Aerosmith, and several others performed in the legend’s honor, and Black Sabbath’s original lineup took the stage together. Elton John, Dolly Parton, and more shared kind words about Osbourne’s impact on them and the music world.
No one knew at the time that the singer would die soon after. His final Instagram post, featuring a small poster for the event, soon became a place of shared mourning for fans around the world. “Thank you for the music you gave us Ozzy,” one fan wrote. “May you rest in peace.”
