Ozzy Osbourne wasn’t just a heavy metal icon—he was also Chipotle’s biggest fan. The legendary Black Sabbath frontman, who died on July 22 at age 76, gushed about the burrito chain during an unforgettable moment on “The Osbournes.” And in a move that made fast food history, Chipotle later confirmed that Osbourne was the first-ever recipient of its coveted Celebrity Card, securing his place not only in rock history—but also in burrito lore.
Ozzy Osbourne Declared Himself ‘Burrito Man’ on ‘The Osbournes’
In season 2, episode 6 of “The Osbournes,” Ozzy Osbourne watched in awe as a Chipotle employee wrapped his order. “This is my favorite, my favorite, favorite, favorite burrito joint,” he said with pure joy, hands pressed to his face like he was watching a religious experience unfold.
The metal legend was so obsessed that he ordered an extra burrito to save for later. When asked how often he ate burritos in a day, Ozzy didn’t miss a beat: “Twice a day, I am Burrito Man.” His wife Sharon Osbourne added with a laugh, “Your father can’t eat one burrito—he has to have 900 burritos.”
According to People, that on-screen moment sparked a now-legendary response from Chipotle: they created a gift card just for him.
Other celebrities that have had the special card include Diplo, Olivia Rodrigo, Tony Hawk and Big Sean.
“The Chipotle Celebrity Card is held by a small group of brand superfans, celebrities, athletes, musicians, and creators. To be considered for a celebrity card, you must be an authentic fan of Chipotle and organically share your passion for the brand in everyday life,” said Candice Beck, Director of Social and Influencers at Chipotle, to Newsweek.
Chipotle Confirms The Prince of Darkness Was Their First Celebrity Cardholder
A spokesperson for Chipotle told People that Ozzy’s love for the brand in 2003 inspired them to create their very first Celebrity Card. “In 2003, a musician turned television star raved about Chipotle on his family’s reality television show, prompting Chipotle to issue its first-ever Celebrity Card,” the brand confirmed.
The Chipotle Celebrity Card entitles its holder to one free meal every day and a complimentary catering order for up to 50 people—valued at around $20,000. The brand has since given the card to numerous stars and athletes, but Osbourne was the OG.
Fans are now reflecting not only on Osbourne’s influence in music, but his legacy as a burrito icon. “He made heavy metal—and Chipotle—cooler,” one fan tweeted.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 22, the Osbournes told The Sun: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
