Singer Olivia Rodrigo has a surprising way to make sure her band crew is okay, both on the road and off.
According to her band’s guitarist, Olivia foots the bill for therapy for the entire band and road crew. And that’s both when they’re on the road touring and when they’re back home.
Guitarist Daisy Spencer spoke about the special benefit when she was a guest on the “StageLeft Podcast.”
“On the Guts World Tour, Olivia and our tour manager, Marty Hom, made accessible and free therapy for all of the touring personnel,” said 31-year-old Spencer. “I have never had anything like that. And that reignited the importance of therapy to me because I had just kind of fallen off for so long, and then suddenly I had this free resource of incredible therapists, and I utilized the crap out of that.”
🎸Guitarist Calls Olivia Rodrigo’s Tour Benefits ‘A Gift’
In the podcast, Daisy Spencer says the free therapy has made touring with Olivia Rodrigo a life-changing experience.
“Honestly, that was one of the coolest things that has ever happened on tour. Like, seriously, one of the best things you can give to people is accessible free therapy, because it can get kind of expensive,” said Daisy.
“I’m doing baby Daisy a good justice of finally getting to hear baby Daisy’s story of what they were going through when I was younger and everything,” she went on.
“It’s been a gift for real. I feel like it is such a gift to be able to look within yourself and have someone else help you bring some stuff out of you that you might otherwise on your own not be able to get there. That’s the gift that therapy has given to me, is that I am able to really flesh out some stuff from my childhood that that needed a voice,” she revealed.
🧠 Mental Health Has Always Been Personal for Olivia Rodrigo
Olivia Rodrigo has spoken openly about the importance of mental health, even as a public figure whose lyrics often explore emotional themes.
The “Vampire” singer has been open about going to therapy herself.
In fact, Olivia Rodrigo’s father Chris Rodrigo is a family therapist.
In an interview on CBS Sunday Morning in 2021, Rodrigo revealed that despite her song lyrics, she’s a pretty mentally healthy person. “A lot of people think, listening to my music, that I’m a really sad, depressed person and that couldn’t be farther from the truth,” she said.
“Definitely not at all crying on my bedroom floor all the time. But it’s fun to write about stuff like that — like if I was just writing about how I was happy, going to get my iced latte every morning, nobody would listen to it, it wouldn’t be interesting,” said the singer.
Her guitarist certainly finds her easy to be around. “Literally is the dreamiest boss of all time,” Daisy Spencer said on the podcast.
