Another week, another set of records and albums to check out. With so many options available, it’s important to check out the new favorites as much as the old ones.
Here’s the music you should listen to this week.
The Cure, “Mixes for a Lost World”
The Cure comes through with a remix album featuring 24 remixes of songs from their previous album, “Songs of a Lost World.” What “Mixes” brings to the table are new versions of songs from artists like Four Tet, Paul Oakenfold, and Orbital. The band has previously released remix albums including 1990’s “Mixed Up” and 2018’s “Torn Down.”
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, “Phantom Island”
The Australian psychedelic rock band is back with their 27th (!) album since 2012. “Phantom Island” was made during one of their touring breaks in 2024. While it was developed alongside the band’s previous album, 2024’s “Flight b741,” the genres of both albums differed. “Flight b741” was more “rowdy” while “Phantom Island” came across as orchestral rock.
Dierks Bentley, “Broken Branches”
Nashville’s own returns with a brand new album that is supposed to represent “what country means to [Bently].” The singer co-wrote with longtime collaborators Brett Beavers, Devin Dawson, and Ashley Gorley. Not only that, he said he listened 4,000 songs before deciding on the seven that would represent the album. Of those included are the single “She Hates Me” which is a lyrical nod to Puddle of Mudd’s 2001 hit.
Leikeli47, “Lei keli ft 47 / For Promotional Use Only”
The masked rapper who is known for keeping her private life private returns after three years away. Although she finally removed the mask in order to promote the album, Leikeli47 still keeps her guard up. The album’s only single – “450” – puts the rapper front and center, her lyrics bouncing off the beat as effortlessly as ever.
“Smurfs (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)”
Rihanna. Tyla. DJ Khaled. These artists and more took the time to make original music for yet another Smurf movie reboot. This one’s called “Smurfs.” Most tracks take on the dancehall genre mixed with French flair. Even James Corden has a song. If the movie’s not good, at least the soundtrack bumps.
