By all accounts, Miley Cyrus has had things pretty good lately. She’s in a happy relationship with her boyfriend, Maxx Morando, and she won two Grammy Awards last year. She’s also been busy making new music for “Something Beautiful,” her bold, new visual album. But perhaps there’s something to the belief that “with great art comes great pain,” as the “Flowers” singer has had quite her share of that.
Cyrus revealed on the May 21 episode of “The Zane Lowe Interview Series” that she suffered from an ovarian cyst rupture during 2023’s “Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party.” But that’s not all of her recent calamities. She also said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that she had to be rushed to the ICU on Thanksgiving in 2024 due to a gnarly knee infection.
Miley Cyrus Shares Graphic Story About Her Leg in ICU After Filming ‘Walk of Fame’ Video
For her new song, “Walk of Fame,” Cyrus decided to film the video on the actual Hollywood Walk of Fame. When Kimmel remarks that she was lucky she didn’t get a hypodermic needle stuck in her while rolling around on the ground, Cyrus admits that “I filmed this video in October, and by November, on Thanksgiving, I was put in an ICU for a moment.”
She emphasized that it was a brief stay because the ER was really busy on Thanksgiving. “And my leg began to disintegrate, within some way around the kneecap area,” she continued. “And the doctor goes, “Do you have any idea why you’d have such a brutal infection on your kneecap? And I just saw myself” — as she mimics rolling around — “and I had to tell him.”
“To have a surgeon look at you and say, ‘Yuck.’ They open up cadavers,” she said. “They see inside the guts of humans, and they’re looking at me, telling me I’m disgusting.”
Miley Cyrus Reveals Why She Filmed the Video in the Middle of the Night
The former coach of “The Voice” revealed they had to film the video in the middle of the night. The reason? She spent so much on clothes that they didn’t have the budget to rent the area. “Have you been to the Walk of Fame in the middle of the night?” she asked Kimmel. “I thought it was my last day.”
After telling the story, Cyrus expressed regret that she’d divulged such sensitive information. “I wanted this video to be so fabulous and now I’ve told everyone such a filthy….”
But Kimmel tried to make her look at the story positively. “What you’ve told everyone is that you sacrificed for this. You nearly gave your life for this film,” he told her.
“I did,” she replied. “And they better go see it!”
“Something Beautiful” will be released on May 30. Fans in the U.S. and Canada can watch the movie in theaters on June 12, a one-day-only event.
