Miley Cyrus opened up on her thoughts regarding Billy Ray Cyrus‘ new romance with actress Elizabeth Hurley.
The “Flowers” singer spoke with The New York Times’ podcast “The Interview” in an episode that dropped Saturday, May 31.
“I’m being an adult about it,” the 31-year-old told the outlet.
“At first it’s hard, because the little kid in you reacts before the adult in you can go, ‘Yes, that’s your dad, but that’s just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and to be happy,'” she continued. “My child self has caught up.”
Cyrus Is No Longer Estranged From Billy Ray
Cyrus confirmed she once again has a relationship with her father.
“There’s been enough bridges now of time to get us all reconnected,” she told the outlet.
The singer’s estrangement from the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer stemmed from her parents divorce. Billy Ray and Cyrus’ mom Tish, were married from 1993 to 2022.
Miley said she felt as though she “took on some of my mom’s hurt as my own because it hurt her more than it hurt me as an adult, and so I owned a lot of her pain.”
The former Disney Channel star praised timing for her reconnection with her father.
“I think timing is everything,” Cyrus added and expressed her happiness for both parents.
Both of Cyrus’ Parents Are in Relationships
Billy Ray debuted his relationship with Hurley when the two hard launched April 20 on Instagram.
The Easter post showed Hurley wearing a cowboy hat, while Billy Ray was sporting bunny ears. The country singer was giving Hurley a kiss.
The two made their red carpet debut May 24 while attending an event in Rome. Billy Ray later posted a video of the two and gushed about his “beautiful girlfriend.”
Prior to Hurley, Billy Ray married and divorced Australian singer Firerose in their short lived romance, according to PEOPLE.
Cyrus’ mom Tish found love again with “Prison Break” actor Dominic Purcell. The two tied the knot in August 2023, per Vogue.
While on the Times podcast, the “Wrecking Ball” singer explained how seeing both her parents finding happiness helps her to see each as their own individual.
“Now that my mom is so in love with my stepdad [Purcell], who I completely adore, and now that my dad, I see him finding happiness, too — I can love them both as individuals instead of as a parental pairing,” she said.
