Matty Healy Consoles His Mom Outside Restaurant Amid Taylor Swift Comment Backlash

Matty Healy was seen comforting his mother, Denise Welch, outside a restaurant in West Hollywood photos obtained by TMZ show.

She was crying and the singer helped consoled her by giving her a hug, along with sitting on the curb with her and chatting. TMZ reports that “she dabbed her eyes with a tissue,” while they chatted

“The two seem deep in a difficult conversation … with Healy appearing animated at one point while his mom was shedding tears,” the outlet wrote, further reporting that Healy was comforting his mom over a family matter.

Healy’s mom, Denise Welch, appeared on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” on Thursday, July 24, and the Bravo host asked her about her son’s relationship with Swift, along with her album, The Tortured Poets Department, which is rumored to include songs about Swift and Healy’s relationship. 

“Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost,” Welch said. “Not that I have anything against her at all! It was just — it was tricky.”

“She — listen, you’re not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it,” she continued. “Matty has taken it all in completely good grace… “She — listen, you’re not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it.”

According to US Weekly, the songs that were rumored to be about her relationship with Healy are “But Daddy I Love Him,” “Down Bad,” “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can),” “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” “Guilty as Sin?,’ “The Tortured Poets Department,” and “Fortnight.”

Following her breakup with longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn in April 2023, Swift had a brief relationship with Matty Healy before her love story with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce began.

Rumors that the two had a fling date back to 2014 when Swift met Healy backstage at one of his concerts. However, Healy denied the rumors shortly after, emphasizing that they had just met and formed a friendship.

Things started back up again in May 2023 when Healy was spotted at one of Swift’s Eras Tour shows. Shortly after, the two were seen in New York City together.

“She and Matty are madly in love,” a source told The Sun at the time. “It’s super-early days, but it feels right.”

However, in June 2023, multiple outlets reported that the two broke up.
