Mariah Carey Returns With Her First New Single in Years

Mariah Carey fans, it’s time to rejoice, because the chanteuse has a brand-new single coming out on Friday, June 6, 2025. Mariah has just dropped a teaser on social media, announcing her new single, “Type Dangerous.”

Mariah posted a video snippet on Instagram, and her caption got straight to the point: “My new single ‘Type Dangerous’ is out this Friday!”

Mariah Carey Has Hinted That a New Album Is Also on the Way

In a video posted to her social media accounts, Mariah is returning with a lot of energy. She is wearing a “Type: Dangerous” tank top while singing, “Looking for the dangerous type/I like them dangerous/ That’s my type/ I said I love them dangerous,” over a dance-infused beat.

According to Billboard, “Type Dangerous” will likely be the first song off of Mariah Carey’s 16th album. Mariah first teased the new song on June 2, 2025, and fans were elated at the thought of new music. That first tease hinted at “MC16,” which is likely a reference to her next new album.

Mariah Carey’s last album came in the form of “Caution” back in 2018. It debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, according to Fader, and is a mix of both heart-wrenching ballads and upbeat tracks.

Mariah Carey Has Stayed Busy in Recent Years

While Mariah Carey hasn’t put out any new music of her own over the last several years, she still has been busy in the music industry. She featured on Ariana Grande’s “Yes, And?” remix in 2024 and is always busy promoting that iconic little smash hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” each year.

Mariah has also put out anniversary re-releases of her most iconic albums to give her fans something fresh and updated to enjoy. In May 2025, she celebrated 20 years of “The Emancipation of Mimi” by dropping an expansive new multi-disc version of the chart-topping album. It includes bonus tracks, remixes, collaborations with other artists, a cappella versions of songs, and, of course, there had to be some live recordings thrown in.

Then there are the tours. Mariah spent the end of 2024, arriving on a snowflake, to perform some of her greatest hits during her holiday tour. She then embarked on a Las Vegas residency, which ran through February 2025. While there are currently no fresh U.S. dates on Mariah’s schedule, they likely will appear once her new album is released.
