Lindsay Lohan is ready to return to the big screen and is eager for fans to see what she has been working on. In a new interview for Elle, Lohan opened up to Saturday Night Live’s Chloe Fineman about reprising one of her most beloved roles, Anna Coleman in “Freakier Friday.” The actress also discussed her acting career, singing, beauty line, motherhood, and her future goals.
Gracing the cover of the magazine’s 2025 summer issue, the 38-year-old is preparing to release the sequel to the 2003 hit “Freaky Friday.” She described the entire experience as “surreal” but shared her excitement about revisiting a character she knows so well. Especially bringing her back in a new context, since it’s been over 20 years since the initial release.
Returning to Disney, where she began her career with “The Parent Trap” at age 12, felt like coming home. Now, she reflects on the experience through a different lens. This time around, she’s sharing her career with her husband and son. She emphasized the comfort she felt during production, attributing it to the familiarity of the actors, the characters, and the supportive environment on set.
A New Twist on ‘Freakier Friday’
Much like her life now, Lohan said the film delves deeper into the mother-daughter relationship, exploring themes of loss, love, and life with more emotional depth than the original. One of her challenges in returning as Coleman was singing once again, not as herself, but as the character.
“It was good. Well, it was kind of nerve-racking at first, because I’m not singing like me. When I was doing [Freaky Friday], I was also recording an album, so it was part of my life at the time,” she said. “In this movie, I was singing it as [my character] Anna, whereas before it felt more like Lindsay singing.”
She revealed the original band, Pink Slip, reunited for the sequel with the original actors. The experience was particularly meaningful as some bandmates and castmates are parents now, making the reunion even more special.
A relationship she especially embraced during filming was with her co-star Jamie Lee Curtis, who also shares a song with Lohan in the film. “I feel like everything felt at ease when we were making it, and I feel that’s the best way to describe how I felt when I watched it. It felt easy and fun, and fresh at the same time,” Lohan said. “[Freakier Friday] is a feel-good movie, which is what I want to give people. And it’s fun.”
Life in the Spotlight and at Home
Lohan also opened up about her life as a mother to her 2-year-old son, Luai. She splits her time between Dubai, New York City, and Los Angeles, saying in Dubai she feels a greater sense of privacy and safety for her family. She emphasized the importance of maintaining normalcy but at the same time balancing raising her son with her husband.
“I mean, it’s the most important thing—my husband, my son, and me. It’s all about balance and, as I said, routine. Especially when you have a kid, routine is the most important thing. And whatever their routine is, I’ve got to live by that,” she said.
A Focus on Beauty and Future Projects
Lohan also teased the development of her own beauty line. “I am developing my own line. More along the beauty line. It’s taking a long time because I’m very specific, because I’m crazy about my skin and health,” she told Fineman.
“My skincare is very specific. I’m trying out some serums now—I’m testing them. Also, I’m a big believer in ice-cold water on your face when you wake up,” she said. “I drink lemon juice a lot; I also put tons of chia seeds in my water. Eye patches, I do every morning. I’m into lasers.”
The actress is set to star in Hulu’s adaptation of Sophia Staats’ novel “Count My Lies.” This is a big step for the actress as it will mark her first leading role in a TV series. She also expressed a desire to explore darker comedic roles, hoping to work with directors like Quentin Tarantino and actors such as Julianne Moore and Robert De Niro.
Lohan’s return to Hollywood signifies a new chapter in her life. One of personal growth, balance, and purpose. Her journey reflects a renewed focus on projects that resonate with her both professionally and personally.
“Freakier Friday” is set to release in theaters on August 8 and also stars Chad Michael Murray, Rosaline Caro, Mark Harmon, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Manny Jacinto.
