We have definitely been changed, for good indeed, after watching the latest trailer for “Wicked 2: For Good!” The highly anticipated sneak peek dropped on June 4th, giving fans a deeper glimpse into the magical world of Oz. This second installment follows the success of “Wicked Part 1,” which starred Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda.
The new film is expected to hit theaters on November 21, 2025, just in time for Thanksgiving weekend! The cast also includes Ethan Slater, “SNL’s” Bowen Yang, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, and Michelle Yeoh, to name a few.
A Special Treat for ‘Wicked’ Fans
But, here’s the icing on the cake. Original Glinda, Kristen Chenoweth, recently gave fans a little tease about the upcoming film. In an exclusive interview with People, the 56-year-old hinted that there might…or might not… be a cameo appearance. Of course, from her and Idina Menzel, similar to their surprise in the first movie.
Last year, the two BFFs broke the internet after they appeared as members of an Emerald City choir on the big screen. Singing “One Short Day,” they celebrated the long-awaited arrival of the Wizard of Oz, portrayed by Goldblum.
“All I can say to the fans is they’ll just have to go and see,” she teased this time around. That’s it. Finished. All that is left is for us to wonder and hope the two original witches do make a comeback!
Broadway Roots and Lasting Magic
Alongside Menzel and Chenoweth, Norbert Leo Butz and Joel Grey originally brought the main cast roles to life on Broadway in 2003. The musical is a reimagined adaptation of Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.” That novel, in turn, draws inspiration from L. Frank Baum’s 1900 classic, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Let’s not forget about the beloved 1939 film starring Judy Garland.
Safe to say “Wicked” was a smash success on Broadway. It earned three Tony Awards, including Best Actress in a Musical for Menzel. It also won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album thanks to its unforgettable score and lyrics, capturing hearts worldwide and setting a high bar for film adaptations.
“Wicked Part 2” is officially set to enchant moviegoers in theaters on November 21st. With such a powerhouse cast and exciting history behind it, fans can expect a thrilling continuation of the story that’s as magical as ever.
Mark your calendars! This one’s going to be a great ride!
