Katy Perry Unveils Epic Playlist for Space Flight

Singer Katy Perry plans to blast some tunes when she blasts off for space Monday, April 14.

Perry is part of an all-woman crew manning the Blue Origin rocket ship “New Shepherd-31,” which will launch from West Texas in a matter of days.

Fellow crew members include talk show host Gayle King, and Blue Origin owner Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez. Also aboard will be former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and film producer Kerianne Flynn.

But 40-year-old Perry will be the one bringing the tunes.

In an interview with “Elle,” the former American Idol judge said, “I’m making a space playlist right now, actually. I’m calling it so far the ‘Space Sistas.”

“‘Planet Claire’ by the B-52s,” the singer said as she listed the playlist’s songs. “‘Starships’ by Nicki Minaj. Hey, girl.”

“Obviously ‘Starman’ by David Bowie,” she continued. “Everybody forgets ‘Intergalactic’ by Beastie Boys, but that thing slaps, especially when we’re going up intergalactic.”

“And then Daft Punk[‘s] ‘Around the World’ and we were like, ‘Yeah, we’re floating,’” she added.

“And you know, I don’t typically do this, but ‘E.T.’ [Perry’s 2011 hit] Come on. Hello? Here we go.”

Blue Origin Crew Talks Space Essentials, Like False Eyelashes

Perry’s playlist won’t have to be too long. The group’s flight will reportedly only last 11 minutes.

It’s expected to climb 62-miles above the surface to the limits of Earth’s atmosphere, but will not actually enter orbit.

It may be a short flight, but Katy Perry says she still plans to look good for it. In fact, Perry told “Elle” her first reaction when she learned she was chosen for the flight was, “What am I going to wear?“

Whatever she chooses, you can bet it will be fabulous. “Space is going to finally be glam,” Perry told “Elle.” “Let me tell you something. If I could take glam up with me, I would do that. We are going to put the ‘ass’ in astronaut.”

And she’s not the only one thinking about the optics. Rocket scientist Aisha Bowe told “Elle,” “I also wanted to test out my hair and make sure that it was okay. So I skydived in Dubai with similar hair to make sure I would be good—took it for a dry run.”

To which Lauren Sánchez added, “We’re going to have lash extensions flying in the capsule!”

Gayle King asked, “Will the lashes stay on? I’m curious.” But Sánchez has that covered. “Mine are glued on. They’re good,” she told fellow crewmates.

Crew Undergoing Final Preparations for Launch

The women have completed most of their training for the flight, but will undergo final training sessions at their rocket’s launch site in Van Horn, Texas, a few days ahead of the April 14 launch according to “Good Morning America.”

The outlet reported that the crew will be “fitted in customized flight suits” on their first day in Van Horn. They’ll also get acclimated to their flight capsule.

“GMA” also reports that the final training will include zero-gravity simulation flights to prepare for the weightlessness that they will experience during their journey.

Members of the Blue Origin staff will familiarize the crew with the layout of the capsule, including the location of cameras and oxygen masks, as well as how to communicate with ground control.

Katy Perry Will Launch Her ‘Lifetimes’ Tour Less Than Two Weeks After Space Flight

When Perry isn’t preparing for space, she’s busy getting ready for her “The Lifetimes Tour.” The tour kicks off in Mexico City on April 23, less than two weeks after the Blue Origin flight.

Tour dates run through December 7.
