Jon Bellion Taps Luke Combs for Emotional New Single ‘WHY’ Inspired by Fatherhood

Fresh off his release with Pharrell Williams on the opening track “Horoscope” from his upcoming album, Jon Bellion has announced a new collaboration. The “Simple & Sweet” singer shared a snippet of his latest single, “WHY,” featuring none other than country music star Luke Combs.

In a heartfelt message to fans, Bellion wrote, “Literally 48 hours before my first son came into this world I was in a session and the artist canceled. I was working with friends Amy Allen and Blake Slatkin. I was actually ready to head home when the artist canceled, but Blake said, ‘I want to make a Jon Bellion record.’”

He continued, “For the first time in a while it forced me to dig super deep into where I was at that moment personally, and out of nowhere an actual panic attack hit me. I literally started thinking thoughts like, am I crazy for bringing a life into this world? What if something goes wrong? Am I even capable of raising a boy? What is the point of life itself kind of sh*t.”

“I went home thinking I would eventually just give it to another artist someday but over the last few years 4 different major artist cut the song and every single one of them told me the same thing. “I can’t sing this song because there is a spirit on. It just feels like it’s yours. I can’t take this from you.” Which frustrated the shit out of me cuz I was convinced I would never be an artist.”

Bellion shared that the lyrics began flowing from that moment, leading to the creation of the track with the help of Allen.

“This song doesn’t really solve the problem. I still have questions on a grand scale. But this song gives me a weird peace about it all, even if it’s only for the length of the song,” he added. “I want to thank Luke for coming in and elevating this song in every way.”

Both artists released snippets of their verses on Instagram, giving fans an early preview of the emotionally driven collaboration.

The song will appear on Bellion’s long-awaited first solo album in six years, “Father Figure.” He previously released the single “Kid Again” on Sept. 27, 2024, followed by “Wash” in March 2025, accompanied by a music video filmed in Iceland.

While an official release date for the album has not been announced, many fans speculate it may arrive by the end of the summer.

Bellion’s solo return follows an impressive career as a singer, songwriter, and producer. Over the years, he has worked with artists including Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Halsey, Jonas Brothers, Maroon 5, and Selena Gomez.

His 2016 single “All Time Low” reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. His debut studio album, “The Human Condition,” peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, while his sophomore release, “Glory Sound Prep,” reached No. 15.

“WHY” Lyrics

I’m scared to meet you,
‘cause then I might know you
And then once I know you, I might fall in love
And once I’m in love, then my heart is wide open
For you to walk in, drop a bomb, blow it up

So why love anything, anything, anything at all?
Why love anything at all?
If the higher I fly is the further I fall
Then why love anything at all?

(Luke)
Stressed and strung out about things that could happen
And I could move mountains with worry I’ve done
So I call my father and he started laughing
He said you think it’s bad now? Wait till you have a son

So why love anything, anything, anything at all?
Why love anything at all?
If the higher I fly is the further I fall
Then why love anything at all?

Why love?
Why love?
Why love?
Why love?
Why love?
Why love?
Why love?
Why love?
Why love?
Why love?
Anything at all?
Anything at all?

If the higher I fly is the further I fall
Then why love anything, anything, anything at all?
Why love anything at all?

If the higher I fly is the further I fall
Why love
(Why love)
Anything at all?
