Jennifer Lopez may be a superstar to the world, but to her kids, she’s just the parent who asks if they got their schoolwork done. “I’m so just Mom to them that they don’t really get involved with my work too much,” she told E! News. “They don’t even know I’m doing the “American Music Awards.” I have to fill them in when we’re having dinner.”

Lopez has previously discussed her strong bond with her children, but she counts more than Max and Emme as her ‘kids.’ While her marriage to Ben Affleck didn’t last more than a couple of years, she has no intention of losing the relationship she created with her step-kids: Violet, Fin, and Samuel.

In 2008, Lopez welcomed twins Maximilian “Max” David Muñiz and Emme Maribel Muñiz to the world with ex-husband Marc Anthony (Marco Antonio Muñiz Rivera). Now 17 years old, the two have very distinct personalities and interests.

When she was 12, Emme wrote a children’s book titled “Lord Help Me.” “I really hope children are able to learn to pray, share the book and spread the power of prayer after reading it,” they told People at the time. They also talked about their desire to help animals, especially one of their favorites. “I want to donate to organizations that build sloth sanctuaries.”

Emme also loves singing like her mom and demonstrated this when they sang with her at the Super Bowl. While most kids would be terrified of singing in front of a global audience, her confidence shone through. “I just don’t overthink it,” they said. “I get up there and do it.”

In contrast to his sister, Max has mostly stayed out of the spotlight and is more introverted. Lopez previously said that, thanks to him, she became more interested in social justice issues. “He wanted me to make sure I realized that I had power and that I should use it,” Lopez told ET.

In 2022, Max made his acting debut in Lopez’s film Marry Me, but hasn’t appeared in anything else.

Lopez is also the stepmother to Ben Affleck’s children with Jennifer Garner: Violet, Fin, and Samuel. Violet is 19 years old and attends Yale University. She was spotted with Lopez multiple times during the divorce. On one occasion, Violet wore a dress of Lopez’s. In another instance, they were photographed hanging out at an antiques & design show benefit in the Hamptons.

She has stayed out of the spotlight for the most part, but isn’t afraid to speak up for what she believes in. In July 2024, Violet stood before the L.A. County Board of Supervisors to advocate for free COVID-19 testing and masks.

Fin, who is 15, developed a close friendship with Emme, even before their dad and Lopez married. Previously called Seraphina, Fin came out as trans in 2024. Despite Lopez and Affleck’s divorce, Fin and Emme have maintained that bond. The two also attend the same school, and in December 2024, Lopez was spotted at a school play in which they were both involved. Fin has been described as outgoing and is very close to their dad, Ben.

Samuel, who is 13, is fond of sports and has been spotted at basketball games with his dad. He also shares a closeness with Lopez. She attended his graduation in June 2024 and was spotted at one of his basketball games. In August 2024, she was photographed dropping him off at Affleck’s rental home after the two had spent time together.

While it’s been a while since Lopez has been photographed with any of her stepkids, Ben Affleck revealed that he brought “the kids” to the premiere of his film “The Accountant 2,” emphasizing that he meant Max and Emme, along with his own children. This sounds like a good sign that they’re both continuing those relationships.
