Jessie J Bravely Opens up About Cancer Diagnosis

Musician Jessie J has opened up about her health, revealing that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She chose to share the news candidly, creating a short video clip of herself, which she posted on Instagram on June 3, to let fans hear the update directly from her.

This was a significant decision for the “Price Tag” singer, as she is not someone who enjoys sharing very personal details. In the clip, she told the camera that she had been conflicted about whether to make the post or not, adding, “I want to share it with my fans and the people that care about me, and also I’m a sharer. I’ve always shared everything that I go through in my life. Before ‘No Secrets’ came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer.”

Jessie J went on to share with her 13.9 million followers that the cancer was detected early, and she emphasized this word. “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word early,” she shared. “I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period.” She also revealed why she was speaking up about her diagnosis and how it might help to come forward.

“I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard,” she said. “I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support, and also their own stories.”

Jessie J also used her video as a way to inject some of her humor that fans have come to know and love. “It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job,” she said, adding that she would be taking time away to get her surgery Capital’s Summertime Ball, which is scheduled for Sunday, June 15. She kept the message hopeful, letting fans know that she intends to return with new music.

In the caption of her video, Jessie J attempted to lighten the situation with humor, while also sending a hopeful message to her fans. “No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called ‘Living my breast life’?” she wrote. “All jokes aside (You know it’s one of the ways I get through hard times) This last 2 months have been so amazing, and having this go on along side it on the sideline’s has given me the most incredible perspective. BUT… Your girl needs a hug.”

She also playfully addressed how surgery would change her breasts and whether she would be getting “massive” new ones. She concluded her post by saying, “I must stop joking.” Fans have flooded the comment section with messages of love and support for the singer.
