Jessica Simpson Reveals Her Relationship Must-Haves in Candid Interview

In January 2025, Jessica Simpson announced that she and Eric Johnson, her husband of 10 years, had separated. “Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” she said in a statement to People at the time.

While she gave no clue as to how long the couple had been ‘living separately,’ she clarified this in a recent interview with “Today’s” Jenna Bush Hager and guest co-host Willie Geist.

“It’s been, like, almost two years now,” Simpson confessed. The singer also decided that she’s ready to jump into the dating world, but she has some ideas of what she’s looking for.

Simpson Says Her ‘Type’ Is Someone Who Is a ‘Very Good Kisser’

Despite admitting that she was “slightly terrified” to start dating again, the moment Jenna Bush Hagar asked if she could set her up with someone, Simpson replied, “Please!”

“I am single, I’m ready,” she added. But she wanted to be clear, her expectations for her next romance aren’t low.

“My type of person is a one-of-a-kind,” she began. “I don’t have a look or anything like that. I like for somebody to be individually who they are, and exude confidence without the ego.”

She admitted that what she’s looking for is probably “hard to find, but it’s out there. I don’t need somebody to be supportive of me all the time. I feel like the independence I have right now, if I could have that, and give to someone else, that’d be cool.”

Simpson also admitted that she tends to move quickly in relationships. “I’m very loyal. If I’m seeing someone, they’re gonna think I’m crazy,” she said. “They’d be like, ‘Yo, we did not say this was just us.’ And I’m like, ‘But in my mind, we’re married.’“

“But I love love, and I’m very passionate, I have a lot to give,” she continued, before realizing that “I feel like I’m on a dating app.”

“It has to be a very good kisser, because that’s the most intimate thing. Grab my face and pull me in. Can you tell I need it?” she added, laughing.

Jessica Simpson Says She’s Grateful for Her Kids

Simpson and Johnson share three kids: Maxwell, 13, Ace, 12, and Birdie, 6. While she has said that getting back to songwriting and making music helped her after she and Johnson separated, she has also said that her kids have helped her, as well.

“They’re my biggest supporters,” she told “Today.”

“My kiddos make everything so real and authentic, which is exactly how I want my brand to be, so having them as part of it feels natural to me,” she also wrote in an Instagram photo of her Birdie and her in April.
