Hailie Jade McClintock, the 29-year-old daughter of rapper Eminem, recently opened up about the challenges of raising her newborn son, Elliot Marshall McClintock, in the public eye. Now that she’s experiencing motherhood herself, she’s gained a deeper appreciation for the difficult balance her father faced while raising her under intense media scrutiny.
“Having been in the spotlight for so long, I’ve learned the importance of balancing what I share publicly with what I keep private,” McClintock told People in an exclusive interview. “Over time, I’ve come to understand the struggle my father faced — wanting to protect our privacy while also feeling proud and wanting to celebrate his kids.”
McClintock, who welcomed her first child with husband Evan McClintock in March 2025, finds herself grappling with similar feelings her father experienced decades ago. The social media influencer and content creator is now walking the same tightrope between sharing precious family moments with fans while maintaining boundaries for her family’s privacy.
Understanding a Father’s Perspective
Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, has been open about the challenges of balancing his controversial rap persona with his role as a devoted parent. In a 2004 Rolling Stone interview, he described the complexity of his dual identity.
“Bein’ a dad is definitely living a double life,” Eminem shared. “Even before Hailie was born, I was a firm believer in freedom of speech… But once I hit them gates where I live, that’s when I’m Dad. Takin’ the kids to school, pickin’ ’em up, teachin’ ’em rules.”
Now McClintock is experiencing those same protective instincts as a new mother. “I feel the same way now,” she told People about her mixed feelings regarding raising a baby amid fame. “I want to share the proud, joyful moments that mean a lot to me, especially as a parent, but I’m also intentional about keeping certain parts of our lives just for us.”
Eminem has frequently referenced his daughter in his music, including songs like “Hailie’s Song” and “Temporary,” the latter of which was written as a message to comfort her in the event of his death. His dedication to fatherhood has been a consistent theme throughout his career, with the rapper crediting McClintock as his motivation for success.
“She made me get my [expletive] in gear — to make something of my life and try 10 quadrillion times harder than I had before,” Eminem told British publication Q in 2001. “Everything that I am doing right now is for Hailie… the money — it’s for her college.”
Finding Her Own Balance
McClintock has carved out her own successful career path, graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in psychology and building a social media presence with 3.6 million Instagram followers. She hosts the podcast “Just A Little Shady” with friend Brittany Ednie and recently launched a YouTube series called “Just a Little Reno,” which she filmed while pregnant.
Despite being just three months into motherhood, McClintock already has a clear vision for how she wants to navigate parenting in the spotlight. “It’s all about finding that balance between openness and privacy,” she shared with People. “And that balance has become even more important to me as I navigate parenthood.”
The bond between father and daughter remains strong, with Eminem continuing to show support for McClintock’s milestones. Most recently, he gave her and her husband a public shoutout during a Jelly Roll concert in Detroit, celebrating their first wedding anniversary in May 2025.
McClintock married Evan McClintock in May 2024, with her husband having asked Eminem for his blessing during her birthday party in December 2022. The couple met at Michigan State University in 2016 and have been together ever since.
Eminem shares three daughters with his ex-wife, Kim Scott: McClintock, Alaina Scott, and Stevie Laine Scott. The rapper announced his grandfather status through the music video for his song “Temporary,” which featured home footage of McClintock growing up and ended with her presenting him with a “Grandpa No. 1” jersey along with a sonogram.
