Destiny’s Child is one of the most successful girl groups of all time. Of course, most remember the group as having Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. However, LaTavia Roberson, a founding member of the iconic group, has recently opened up about her status with the ladies.
Latavia Roberson was in a 2024 interview with fellow singer Nicci Gilbert. Nicci asked her if she ever sees the ladies from Destiny’s Child. She responded, “Yes.” Latavia continued, “I’ve seen the girls on different times. I’ve seen Beyonce actually more times than the other girls.”
She continued, “The last time we were together was at the Renaissance [tour], and that was the first time in 26 years that we had been in the same room.” Notably, Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett all reunited at the Renaissance tour in 2024.
LaTavia Roberson Reflected On Her Destiny’s Child Reunion
According to Entertainment Weekly, LaTavia spoke about the reunion in February 2024 with Amy Sutton. She said of reuniting with the ladies, “Being able to be back with everybody, we just sat and we just enjoyed each other.”
She continued describing the night by saying, “There were the kids running around, we were all in different areas, I had my private time with Beyoncé, it was just…everything was wonderful.”
LaTavia Roberson also spoke about being a founding member of Destiny’s Child and how close she was with the original ladies, Beyoncé, Kelly, and LeToya. She said, “I was a kid and I grew up with my friends.”
She went on, “They were the only friends that I had because at such a young age, I wasn’t out there going to proms and doing all this stuff. We were on the road, we were touring, and [they were] the only people you know who are your age…and then it’s stripped away. It’s just a hard thing to deal with. Especially being a child.”
She Has Opened Up About Being Removed From the Group
According to PEOPLE, LaTavia Roberson was dismissed from Destiny’s Child in 2000. The story is that she and LeToya Luckett wanted new management for the group, and that they were both kicked out as a result. She has spoken about how this led to struggles with addiction.
She told the outlet, “I never left Destiny’s Child. That is something that people say. But who would leave Destiny’s Child? That’s crazy! I was dismissed from the group.”
LaTavia Roberson added, “It was very difficult because of the way that I found out about it. I hate even talking about it, and it’s been 20 years — but it is what it is. We saw the ‘Say My Name’ video on TV, and that’s how I found out I was no longer in the group.”
More recently, she has pursued a career in acting as well as in reality television. Notably, she appeared in the reality show “R&B Divas” in 2014.
