Beyoncé’s Mother Publicly Goes to Bat for Her Grandkids

Tina Knowles, 71, showed her fiercely protective mama bear side as she powerfully spoke out in defense of her family.

The mother of Beyoncé, 43, and Solange Knowles, 38, made a March 19, 2025 Instagram post to address the escalating controversy created by the actions of hip hop musician Ye (formerly known as Kanye West).

In the latest and most inflammatory of his increasingly erratic posts, Ye insulted the two youngest children of Beyoncé and Jay Z.

Knowles took time out of a photo shoot for her new book, “Matriarch, ” to make a quick Instagram video in which she said, “I got a corny joke. Wanna hear it? Hear it go. What happens when a snowman throws a tantrum? He has a meltdown.” Knowles then chuckled, “Y’all know that’s funny.”

Knowles is known for her long-running “corny joke time” Instagram series, and it appears likely the March 19 edition was a response to the explosive statements made by Ye the same day on X, the social media app formerly called Twitter. Although she didn’t call out Ye by name, she addressed the situation more directly in a now-deleted caption under the video which TMZ documented before it was gone.

Knowles wrote in the caption that “it’s hard to remain positive and classy in the face of ignorance and evil.” TMZ reports she also said, “But I know that no weapon formed against me or my family shall prosper.”

The outlet says Knowles emphasized her statement with a praying hands emoji, before finishing with, “This battle is not mine, but the Lord’s. I know that God has got this.”

The caption was soon edited to simply say, “Corny joke time!”

Neither Beyoncé nor Jay Z has publicly spoken about Ye’s stunning social media attack, but Page Six says they received information from an unnamed source regarding how the superstar couple plans to address the matter.

The outlet reports that the source said the couple finds Ye’s actions “shocking” and that they “will absolutely not stand for it.”

The insider also said, “Jay-Z and Beyoncé are aware of the posts Kanye has since deleted and are discussing how they want to handle this situation, whether that be privately and/or in a legal matter,” according to the Page Six report.

Fans Praised Tina Knowles For Protecting Her Family

After Knowles made her post, supportive comments flooded in.

“One thing about Tina is she does NOT play about her family and she’s gonna clock people every time,” wrote one observer.

Another said, “I’m picking up what you putting down Mama Tina! Lol. Can’t wait to buy my ticket for your book tour!”

A third fan praised Knowles for keeping her composure, saying, “That’s what you call a Mother’s way of clapping back with class. I love this!”

What Did Kanye West Say About Beyoncé & Jay Z’s Kids?

On March 19, 2025, Ye took aim at Beyoncé and Jay Z’s seven-year-old twins, Rumi and Sir Carter. According to a screenshot posted by the Irish Star, the rapper and fashion designer wrote, “WAIT HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN JAY Z AND BEYONCES YOUNGER KIDS,” before directing an offensive slur towards them.

The screenshots reveal the “Gold Digger” rapper then reacted to the future possibility of his post being removed by the site, saying, “SO BE IT BUT I NEED YALL TO NO JAY Z OR NOBODY HAVE NO POWER OVER ME.”

Ye’s X account, which as of March 21, 2025 had a pop-up warning for potentially “sensitive or offensive content”, sheds some light on his thoughts the day he made the posts. At 10:28 a.m. he wrote, “SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO GO DARK.”

Ye Formerly Collaborated With Jay Z On Several Music Projects

The depth Ye’s attacks on the Carter family have reached are particularly stunning considering how close the hip hop collaborators formerly appeared.

The two stars have been side-by-side for some of their most memorable and successful musical moments, including their iconic “Watch the Throne” tour that kicked off on October 28, 2011 and added 11 extra North American shows due to overwhelming demand, per the Los Angeles Times.
