Beyoncé Will Support History-Making Album With World Tour
The singer made history at this year’s Grammy Awards, taking home album of the year, best country album and best country duo/group performance for “II Most Wanted” with Miley Cyrus.
According to The New York Times, before Beyoncé’s win, only three black women had won album of the year in Grammy history: Natalie Cole (1992), Whitney Houston (1994) and Lauryn Hill (1999). And no black woman had ever won a Grammy for a country song until this year.
In her acceptance speech for album of the year, Beyoncé said, “I just feel very full and very honored. It’s been many, many years. I just want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer, for all of the hard work. I want to dedicate this to Miss Martell, and I’ll just hopefully keep pushing forward, opening doors.”
The singer also holds the records for most Grammy nominations (99) and most Grammy wins (35.) That is four more than any other artist in history.
