At first glance, the cover for Billie Eilish’s third studio album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft”, demands many to do a double take.
Eilish is seen floating underwater as a white opened bedroom door floats near the top of the war. The album cover looks like an artwork in and of itself as it lures listeners into the album.
Behind the Album Cover
On May 17, the album’s one year anniversary, Eilish shared a peek into the making of the cover art.
The artist shared a video on her social media and Youtube channel showcasing the behind the scenes of the cover shoot.
In the beginning of the video Eilish is seen sitting beside a large water tank with a team and cameras.
Although the video shared is almost 3-minutes long, the “Birds of a Feather” singer spent much longer bringing the vision to life.
The video shares Eilish spent seven hours shooting underwater. In order to remain underwater, the singer wore weights on her ankles and waist.
Fans took on the comments section to express their support for the singer and her dedication to her form of art.
“She put her whole life and soul into this album,” one fan commented.
Another fan noted the effort the singer put into the cover art.
“I love how she doesn’t use green screens to try and do her videos/album covers,” another fan wrote. “Like the effort she puts into this is stunning, and to go so far as to nearly drown herself for the perfect shot, is insane. At this point it’s not just an album cover, it’s an art piece.”

Eilish also shared a personal video in celebration of the album’s one year mark. The video showcased her friends’ reactions to hearing her new music at the time. Support, excitement and awe were all expressed by those featured in her video as they took in her new musical release.
