Mark Long is getting candid with fans once again — but this time, it’s deeply personal. The reality TV veteran took to Instagram recently to ask for prayers as his mother continues her fight with stage 4 breast cancer.
Known as “The Godfather” of “The Challenge,” Long has been open about his mom’s diagnosis since 2019, and he’s made her story a central part of his time on and off the show.
‘The Challenge’ Star Mark Long Has a Special Request for Fans

Long recently posted an Instagram Story that read, “Please say some prayers for my Mom 🙏,” a brief but powerful message that instantly resonated with fans.
This isn’t the first time Long has shared updates about his mom’s health. In a Screen Rant interview during the airing of “The Challenge: Battle of the Eras,” Long reflected on how much her story means to both of them. “She’s had stage 4 [breast cancer] since All-Stars season 1, she’s now in her fifth year of battling cancer,” he said. “I’m super proud that I’ve gotten to shine a light on breast cancer and getting checked… It kind of makes my mom smile when fans reach out and tell me to tell her they’re praying for her.”
On June 2, Long also marked his birthday with a Facebook fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, writing:
“Every year on my birthday, I raise money for a different charity. This year it’s for the American Cancer Society in honor of my Mom who is fighting stage four breast cancer.”
He shared a throwback photo of the two together and encouraged followers to donate what they could.
‘The Godfather’ Has a Long History With the MTV Competition Show
Long’s got his start on the very first season of “Road Rules” and later became a staple on “The Challenge,” where he earned the nickname “The Godfather” for being part of the franchise’s foundation.
Over the years, Long has competed in multiple seasons of “The Challenge,” including classic early iterations and newer spin-offs like “The Challenge: All Stars,” where he also serves as an executive producer. Despite being eliminated early in season 40, Long’s influence on the show remains strong.
Reflecting on his run, Long told Screen Rant:
“I feel like I’m more relevant now than I was back in the ‘90s… It’s nice to have that reputation of being a pioneer of the game, but to be one of the ones that the fans have taken a liking to… that’s cool for me.”
He’s not just a competitor—he’s become a voice for awareness, advocacy, and connection within the “Challenge” community. From social media to in-game phone calls with his mom, Long has brought viewers into his personal world, using his platform for something far greater than reality TV fame.
As fans rally around him with prayers and support, it’s clear Mark Long’s legacy isn’t just about what he’s done on the screen—but what he’s shared beyond it.
“The Challenge” season 41 is currently in production.
