It’s fair to say Kim Kardashian has an enviable jewelry collection, but when it comes to diamonds, it’s complicated.
In the latest episode of “The Kardashians” on Hulu, Kim reveals her plans to give her engagement ring from Kanye West to her oldest daughter, 11-year-old North West.
“Because she was with me when I got engaged,” says Kim, who gave birth to North four months before she and Kanye got engaged. “She held it after and I took a photo.”
Ironically, Kim says the 15-carat diamond was the “only piece of jewelry” she didn’t have with her when she was robbed at a Paris hotel in 2016. She says she didn’t bring the ring to Paris because of then-husband Kanye, who told her never to wear it and a second, larger engagement ring he gave her at the same time. In an Instagram video that has since been taken down, Kim said the rapper warned her, “‘Don’t you ever wear both of your rings at the same time. Are you looking to get robbed?'”
That second ring, a 20-carat flawless emerald cut diamond worth $4.9 million was part of the $11 million dollar heist in 2016. Armed gunmen bound and gagged Kim Kardashian in her Paris hotel room and took her jewels. Police believe that diamond, which was never recovered, was broken into smaller stones and sold on the black market.
Kim Kardashian Says She Had to Return Kris Humphries Ring
In the same episode, Kardashian says she had to return the 18-carat engagement ring from ex-husband Kris Humphries as part of the divorce settlement.
“I didn’t keep that,” Kim says to Khloe. She then explains that she was pregnant with North but still legally married to Humphries. She split with the former NBA player after just 72 days of marriage.
“In order to divorce him, he said I had to give him the ring in the divorce,” says Kardashian, noting that she paid for the majority of the ring. “He contributed a fifth.”
Kim indicated she wishes she still had that ring, saying, “I would’ve loved a collection.” But the reality star says the ring she plans to give North is the most important.
Kim Kardashian Loses Massive Diamond at Lavish Wedding
The diamond drama continued in present day. In the March 13 episode of “The Kardashians,” Kim and sister Khloe attend a lavish wedding in Mumbai, India. The sisters attended the $600 million dollar wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant last July. That’s despite admitting they’d never met the couple.
During the festivities, Kim wore a massive diamond necklace by jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz. And one of the large teardrop pendants went missing, with the falling diamond caught on video.
In a confessional in the episode, Kim explained, “It was like a big diamond necklace, like a bib. And then there were pearls and big pear-shaped diamonds hanging from it.”
Khloe added, “I think when we were talking to the sister, the diamond fell.”
Despite security and even wedding guests searching for the diamond, it was never found.
“R-I-P,” Khloe said in the episode.
When a producer asked Kim if she felt bad about losing the diamond, Kim answered, “Yeah, I do.”
“Only right now,” Khloe interjected. “She hasn’t thought about it since.”
“I felt bad in the moment,” Kim clarified.
