Exactly one year after “Renovation Aloha” premiered to rave reviews from HGTV fans, Kamohai and Tristyn Kalama are ready to kick off a second season of what HGTV Head of Content Loren Ruch called “an instant hit.” On January 23, 2025, the network announced that the Kalamas’ new season will premiere on February 18 at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
The Kalamas, both Hawaii natives, have been busy filming 10 new episodes for a while. In April 2024, shortly after their first season wrapped, they shared a social media video revealing that they were already filming a new season.
Fellow HGTV Stars Cheer the Return of ‘Renovation Aloha’
In season two of “Renovation Aloha,” per HGTV, the Kalamas will “encounter a host of high-pressure challenges from black mold and break-ins to crumbling foundations” as the couple and their large family — including 87 first cousins — renovate properties that have fallen apart. The season will also feature their “most expensive project ever” and their first renovation on the Big Island.
In the February 18 season premiere, the Kalamas have a 12-week deadline to renovate an abandoned 1950’s home that they bought sight unseen, only to find the roof and floor need major repairs and there are tons of junk cars “strewn across the property,” HGTV said.
Fans were thrilled to see that the return of “Renovation Aloha” is just weeks away, and many HGTV stars liked or commented on the post announcing the Kalamas return, including “100 Day Dream Home” stars Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt, “Rock the Block” host Ty Pennington, “Down Home Fab” stars Cole and Chelsea DeBoer, and Eilyn Jimenez of “Divided by Design.”
Among the hundreds of fans who commented, one wrote, “Love how wholesome you both are and love seeing your beautiful island!!!”
“Yay I love your show, your family, your design,” another wrote. “I’m excited you’re going to be back.”
Kamohai and Tristyn Kalama’s New Season Comes On the Heels of Stressful Year
In addition to renovating and filming for their second season throughout 2024, the Kalamas — who are raising their daughter Yasiel, 9, and son Yale, 6 — faced some stressful situations during the last few months of the year.
In September, Deadline revealed that the Kalamas are one of the duos competing on season 6 of “Rock the Block,” which began filming shortly after the announcement and is expected to air in early 2025.
The Kalamas, who run a real estate company aiming to educate and empower fellow Hawaiians interested in flipping homes, also faced public scrutiny in early December, when a local media reported that the couple’s company and contractors may not have secured proper permits on all of their renovation projects.
In a statement released via social media, the Kalamas said that the report “misrepresents our work on ‘Renovation Aloha’ and undermines the values we hold dear.”
Their statement continued, “These misleading claims fail to reflect the full context of the challenges we face or the sincerity of our efforts to operate with integrity, comply with all regulations, and serve our community with transparency and care.”
Intensely proud of their heritage, the Kalamas added, “As a local and native Hawaiian couple born and raised on O’Ahu, we take immense pride in being part of this vibrant community. Our mission has always been to uplift our neighbors, foster the spirit of Aloha, and contribute positively to the well-being of Hawai’i through our work on and off television.”
