Ty Pennington Addresses His Status on HGTV Amid Changes

HGTV star Ty Pennington inadvertently sparked concern among fans with a brief social media video on July 18, 2025, that led some to believe he was bidding farewell to the network. It was not a far-fetched assumption, given that multiple HGTV stars have had their shows canceled over the last month, from Jonathan Knight to Christina Haack.

But the beloved “Rock the Block” host assured followers in an Instagram Story the following morning that it was all a misunderstanding. Pennington insisted there was “no hidden meaning” in the moving image of him standing on the rocky shore of the East River in Brooklyn, carrying a retro suitcase or his caption: “A quiet place ✨ #findingsolitudeinthecity”

Ty Pennington Says He’ll Start Filming Again With HGTV in September

Pennington is a perennial favorite on HGTV, but one of his shows, “Battle on the Beach,” is among the multiple series not renewed by the network in 2025, his co-star Alison Victoria revealed on her podcast on July 1. However, Pennington wrote in his July 19 Instagram Story, that doesn’t mean he’s done at the network.

“I fear I may have unknowingly confused some people with my post yesterday 🙈,” Pennington wrote over a screenshot of his post and a similar photo he had posted months before. “To be clear, it’s just a photo- no hidden meaning and despite what you might have heard recently, I am still in fact with @hgtv and very much look forward to start filming again in September 🤗🎥 #stillkickin”

The former “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” star noticed the confusion in his comment section and tried to clear things up there, too.

One fan wrote to him, “Ty … I can’t put into words about HGTV … they took your show and replaced it with the same show…. you have a fan base for years… Where one door closes more will open…For now rest… enjoy some free time.. This is far from over…”

Pennington replied, “it’s definitely not over 🤗😉”

Another pleaded, “Ty come back boi we need you lol ! Don’t you pack up and leave us all up in here . You need to come back and remodel somethin! We love you! My husband said come on son bring it! ❤️❤️😂”

To that, Pennington replied, “I’m not leavin! I just travel light 😂”

“I’m not really watching HGTV anymore because of all good shows they are dropping,” someone else commented. “I look forward to you landing on a different channel somewhere. Impatiently waiting.”

“I’ll still be on HGTV,” Pennington responded. “I hope you’ll tune in 🤗”

Pennington didn’t specify what he’s filming in September, but HGTV announced in May that one of its upcoming shows in 2026 would feature a renovation of the mansion featured on ABC’s “The Bachelor.” Pennington is typically part of ensemble shows in which HGTV stars transform an iconic space, like the “Brady Bunch” house in 2019 and “The Barbie Dream Home Makeover” in 2023.

Ty Pennington Has Expressed Shock at So Many HGTV Show Cancellations

Although Pennington will still be a familiar face on HGTV moving forward, he has empathized with fans upset about learning since mid-June that some of their favorite shows have not been renewed, including “Bargain Block,” “Farmhouse Fixer,” “Married to Real Estate,” and “Christina on the Coast.”

When someone commented on his July 18 post, “I ,like many huge fans of HGTV, do not understand what they are doing cancelling all these great shows😭,” Pennington replied, “me either my friend!🤷🏻‍♂️”

On June 24, when Egypt Sherrod shared the news of “Married to Real Estate” not being renewed, Pennington expressed his bewilderment on Sherrod’s post.

He wrote, “You know, in general I thought I had decent gauge about what TV executives wanted and the last few years have completely shattered that. Seriously shocked to hear this! Ya’ll are true professionals and I especially loved the designs from the last season 🙌 Keeping doing you 🙏🏼❤️ Onward and upward!”
