Tarek El Moussa’s a very busy guy. He’s buying and selling real estate, speaking at seminars and conventions, filming HGTV shows (although he has one less series to shoot as of July 15, 2025), and juggling a blended family with his wife Heather Rae El Moussa and his ex-wife — and fellow HGTV star — Christina Haack.
But it turns out Tarek is so busy he doesn’t even have time to do a load of laundry. In a video interview with Us Weekly for its “Stars Are Just Like Us” segment, published on July 15, Tarek revealed he’s decidedly not like us when it comes to everyday tasks.
“The last time I did laundry was…” Tarek said, repeating a prompt from the outlet and thinking hard about his answer, “I think 2016. I think. Heather does not do the laundry. So, we have people that do the laundry.”
To refresh your memory, Barack Obama was still president in 2016, Matt Lauer was still anchoring “The Today Show,” and Tarek was routinely in the headlines that year as his marriage to Christina took a nosedive. They announced their split that December, and have since become friends and co-stars again.
But Christina, who’s now dating business executive Christopher LaRocca, has said she’d never want to be married again to Tarek. Perhaps in part because his laundry tidbit wasn’t the only eye-popping admission he made to Us Weekly about his daily life.

During the segment with Us Weekly, Tarek revealed several other fascinating facts about how he manages daily life to get everything done on his to-do list.
For instance, the last time he had to wait in line for something? Tarek said that was at the airport, but quipped, “It was a short line, though, ’cause it was a special line, but it was a line.”
He and Heather did have to deal with long airport lines in July 2022, posting about their saga trying to get home to California from the Hamptons. By the next year, they’d begun flying via private jet and got some pushback from fans, according to People, over posting about how “easy” their baby Tristan’s first flight went.
In another hilarious example of Tarek’s life being nothing like an average person’s, his response to Us Weekly when asked to name the last item he ordered online was, “I don’t order things online. My assistants do it for me.”
One relatable tidbit the “Flip Off” star shared was that his first job was as “a bag boy at Albertson’s and then Stater Brothers grocery store in 1997. I made $5.70 an hour.”

Tarek told Us Weekly that while paying others to do everyday tasks helps him focus on his priorities, his always-on-the-go personality can sometimes be too much for his family, including the kids he shares with Christina — 14-year-old daughter Taylor and nine-year-old son Brayden.
“The one thing I do that drives Heather and my family crazy is everything,” he admitted, “because I never stop, I never shut up, and I never slow down. But that’s also why they love me.”
In early 2024, Tarek told EntertainmentNow that he’d been diagnosed with severe ADHD at age 17, but didn’t find the proper medication and dosage until his late 30s, noting, “I feel more stable and centered than I ever have in my life, which is a wonderful feeling.”
Tarek said channeling the hyper-focused skillset that comes with his ADHD into his passions for real estate and media been key to his success.
“I think it’s really important for anyone with ADHD to find something they’re extremely passionate about,” he said. “Because when you have ADHD, if you find something you love, you can become obsessive in it and you’re willing to do whatever it takes to learn what it is you’re interested in learning.”
