HGTV Stars Respond to ‘Devastating’ Wildfires in Los Angeles: ‘Loss for Words’

Many of HGTV’s biggest stars are offering updates, support and prayers to the thousands of Los Angeles residents reeling from the devastation caused by the most destructive fire in Los Angeles County’s history, per CNN, from January 7 – 9, 2025.

By the morning of January 9, most stars who live in the area — including “Property Brothers” Drew and Jonathan Scott — had not yet provided public updates on their well-being. But many who live and film their shows elsewhere have weighed in from afar.

HGTV Stars Share Insights Into Devastation in Los Angeles: ‘Praying & Asking You To Do The Same’

As fires raged out of the control across Los Angeles on January 8, multiple HGTV stars posted messages of hope and concern on social media. Designer Anthony Elle, who won season 4 of “Rock the Block” with Michel Smith Boyd, lives in the area and let fans know he was safe but without power.

“My niece and I are safe,” he wrote. “We are without electricity but that’s so minor considering so many are suffering through this devastating experience of great loss and tragedy. Watching this happen around me feels like something out of a movie but it’s beyond real. I’m praying and asking you to do the same. God is still in control. ❤️ Thank you to everyone who sent DM’s to check on us.❤️”

“Rock the Block” host Ty Pennington commented, “😰❤️ stay safe please”

“Windy City Rehab” star Alison Victoria, who is in Las Vegas filming her new show, “Sin City Rehab,” posted a video in her Stories that she’d recently taken on the beach in Malibu.

Over the video, she wrote, “2 nights ago we were watching this dreamy sunset in Malibu and now that dream has turned into a complete nightmare of devastation and unimaginable fear for so many. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍”

On the morning of January 9, Victoria’s “Battle on the Beach” co-star Taniya Nayak also posted a selfie video in her Instagram Stories, in which she addressed the fires.

“I’m currently in Florida, and I’ve been admittedly taking a break from news and social media,” Nayak told her followers, “but I caught word, obviously, about everything happening out in LA and I have to tell you, I am at such a loss for words. I have friends — best friends, I have coworkers, I have clients, I have so many people that I love and care about. And all these people that I don’t even know that I’m thinking about. And I am just sending so much love out there.”

“In my wildest imagination, I cannot even imagine what that would feel like to have to evacuate, let alone lose your home,” she continued. “I just wanted to send my best.”

“Renovation Island” stars Sarah and Bryan Baeumler, who also appear as judges on “Battle on the Beach,” posted a statement in Sarah’s Instagram Stories on January 8 that read, “Our Los Angeles Community: Our hearts are with all those impacted by the devastating fires. We are sending our thoughts and sympathies to everyone that has lost, been displaced, or is navigating uncertainty during this time. Please know you’re not alone — sending love, strength and support your way. With love, Sarah & Bryan”

“Fixer to Fabulous” star Jenny Marrs shared multiple Instagram Stories, including a post from her author friend Carlos Whittaker, who chronicled the loss of his wife’s grandmother’s home.

On one of his posts, Marrs wrote, “I’m so sorry. Devastating 💔” and in her own Stories, she wrote, “Praying for everyone in the path of this fire 🙏💔”

Many HGTV Stars Are Sharing Resources & Places to Donate

Many HGTV stars have posted links to organizations that need donations to continue rescue and recovery work in Los Angeles.

Nayak shared a link to a post full of resources and places collecting donations, and Victoria also shared a post, seen above, with a list of organizations on the ground in LA.

Pennington shared the same link as Victoria in his Stories and wrote, “I have no words 😔💔 Heartbroken for the people of Los Angeles”

Mike Jackson of “Married to Real Estate” shared several posts about evacuation centers for displaced residents, including one he reposted from talk show host Sherri Shepherd and another originally shared by comedian Kevin Hart.

Longtime HGTV star Tarek El Moussa, who lives in Orange County, California, shared links in his Instagram Stories to support the LA Fire Department, which has launched a fund to purchase much-needed emergency wildfire equipment, and she encouraged readers to “pray for our city, its people and especially our first responders.”
