They’re famous for designing, renovating and staging other people’s houses on television, but how do HGTV stars like Jenny Marrs, Erin Napier and the “Property Brothers” decorate their own homes for the holidays?
Over the final few weeks of 2024, multiple HGTV personalities have shared peeks inside (and outside) their homes to reveal their festive decor, from over-the-top to understated and simple. Here’s your ultimate guide to it all!
Dave & Jenny Marrs Share ‘Simple’ Christmas Decor With HGTV
On December 18, HGTV released a 10-minute video in which cameras followed “Fixer to Fabulous” stars Dave and Jenny Marrs as they showcased the Christmas decor at their charming 1903 farmhouse in Bentonville, Arkansas. Though their five kids didn’t appear in the video, their darling new kitten Lloyd did get some screen time.
“In terms of holiday decor, I really just like to bring in natural elements,” Jenny told the HGTV crew, from fresh garland on their staircase banister to neutral colors with brass and cream decor. “Just really simple and calming.”
The video showed their Christmas tree in front of a picture window at the front of their home, decorated with white-framed photo ornaments of their kids, rust-colored ribbons, white lights and a large brass star at the top.
“We are very particular about the tree,” Dave said, joking that they don’t want a too-big-for-the-room tree like in the movie “Christmas Vacation.” He added, “When we go find a tree in town, we want it to fill the room (but) just not go crazy.”
The Marrs also have seven handmade stockings hanging along their banister, repurposed from Turkish rugs, and simple decor elements in their kitchen, including a cranberry wreath hanging over the stove. The Marrs are sure to provide more peeks into their home life when “Fixer to Fabulous” kicks off their sixth season on January 7 at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
Erin Napier Shares Christmas Decor & Traditions at Country Home
When “Home Town” star Erin Napier provided a peek at the holiday decor and traditions happening at the country home in Laurel, Mississippi, she shares with husband Ben and their two young daughters, one fan marveled over the “magical old fashioned Christmas” feel.
Erin shared a photo of their real Christmas tree, dripping with red ribbons, colorful ornaments and topped with a giant gold star. She also shared photos of four stockings hung over the fireplace, and of six-year-old daughter Helen helping to make sweet-smelling pomanders (oranges decorated with cloves), a holiday tradition she has fond childhood memories of. She even created a candle benefitting The Salvation Army that aims to emulate the holiday scent.
Despite all the sweet holiday decor, the Napiers will be on the road for Christmas, heading in their renovated camper to Ben’s parents’ house in northern Mississippi.
Drew Scott Builds an Elevated Train Track for His Little Boy
On December 20, “Property Brothers” star Drew Scott uploaded a new YouTube video with a tour of his and wife Linda Phan’s Los Angeles home, all decked out for the holidays.
In the video, Linda was putting the finishing touches on their living room Christmas tree, loaded with “scrap” ribbons and mostly wooden ornaments, while Drew gave a tour of the home. He showed 10 stockings hung over the fireplace for all the kids in Linda’s family who will be staying with them over the holiday, and their own kids — six-month-old daughter Piper and two-and-a-half-year-old son Parker.
Since Parker is a huge fan of trains, Scott also built an elevated train track that circles their living room, admitting he was “online for hours trying to figure it out.” The finished product allows a lighted Christmas train to runs along the track near the ceiling.
Even the white walls at the Scott home are decorated with pink and white removable peel-and-stick tape to resemble candy canes. The built-in shelves in their dining-room-turned-playroom is also full of meaningful holiday decor, from favorite books to Parker’s art.
Jonathan Scott Decks the Halls With Pastels
Not to be outdone by his twin brother, Jonathan Scott also decks the halls — and every space in between — for the holidays. He showcased the home he shares with his fiancée, actress Zooey Deschanel, in another YouTube video.
Their whimsical decor, which Jonathan calls “nostalgic” and “fun,” includes two giant pink nutcrackers standing on both sides of their front door, lighted pink and blue trees in their foyer, and a fireplace and Christmas trees jam-packed with pastel decor.
“We reuse most of our Christmas decorations from year to year,” he said in the video, but admitted they’ll often add something new each year. In 2024, that includes cartoonish “cute little gingerbread people” placed throughout their California house.
HGTV Stars Keith Bynum & Evan Thomas Get Cozy for Christmas
In early December, “Bargain Block” stars Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas gave fans a peek at the cozy Christmas vibe in their Detroit home, which they finished renovating in 2023.
Though Bynum’s Instagram post on December 3 started with snapshots from the Book Tower hotel in Detroit, he included a video on the fifth slide of the holiday decor at their house. Their neutral living room features garland with gold and cream accents along the fireplace, with two stockings hung with care, accessories like an evergreen tree throw pillow and gold tree on the coffee table. The room also included a mostly white Christmas tree with what looked to be dried Eucalyptus leaves added throughout for color.
Bynum’s video then moved through their dining room, with an evergreen wreath on one wall, and into their back den where Thomas was sitting on the couch beneath another wreath. There were two more stockings hung on their green tiled fireplace.
Many HGTV Hosts Have Shared Peeks Inside Their Holiday Decorating
Plenty of other HGTV stars have given peeks into their holiday decorating efforts. In November, “Married to Real Estate” star Mike Jackson posted a funny video of his wife, Egypt Sherrod, shopping at HomeGoods with a train of three carts filled to the brim with Christmas decor.
“Unsellable Houses” stars — and twin sisters — Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis have shared multiple posts from their Washington state design studio and Lamb & Company retail space, which they’ve decked out for the holidays for their 3rd annual Breakfast With Santa event.
Jonathan Knight of “Farmhouse Fixer” posted a sweet photo on December 10 from the New England home he shares with his husband, Harley Rodriguez. In the evening photo, their dog Oliver was sound asleep on the couch with the glowing Christmas tree behind him. Knight captioned the photo, “And to all…a good night.”
And though Mika and Brian Kleinschmidt of “100 Day Dream Home” have not shared much from their own home during the holidays, they showcased and helped decorate at the People’s House during HGTV’s “White House Christmas” special on December 15. Mika shared behind the scenes video and photos in a recent post, still amazed they got to be part of it.
