Longtime HGTV Star Wants His Family to Compete on ‘Rock the Block’: ‘We’d Probably Win’

Competing on “Rock the Block” is not for the faint of heart, according to nearly every HGTV star who has been cast on the last six seasons of the network’s hit series.

But the sleepless nights and stressful days are just the kind of challenge that no-nonsense contractor Michael Holmes excels at, especially with his family working alongside him. The Canadian contractor has renovated homes on TV for over two decades and now co-stars with his grown kids — Sherry Holmes and Michael Holmes, Jr. — on the second season of HGTV’s “Holmes Family Rescue,” premiering on June 4, 2025.

When asked by TV Insider whether they’d consider joining a future season of “Rock the Block,” Mike told his kids he’d “highly recommend it” and quipped, “I don’t want to go ahead and say we’d win, but I’d say we’d probably win.”

“Rock the Block” typically pits four pairs of HGTV stars against each other, all renovating identical, newly-built homes with weekly design challenges.

“I’ve thought about it,” Michael told TV Insider. “I’d love to do something like that. Life is busy and the schedule is busy, but there is room for fun and opportunity. If ‘Rock the Block’ is looking for more fun, we are here.”

Sherry chimed in, “We’ve had little opportunities on different things, but I think that could be a really good time. I get nervous on a regular basis being on television now, so it would be fun to be pushed past your limits.”

When she asked her dad whether he thought they’d make a good team, he replied, “I think so because we’re used to working together already. I do want to say this: I do worry about the rest of the competitors.”

“I can be really competitive,” Sherry said, “so it would be interesting to say the very least.”

Mike Holmes Was Alison Victoria’s 1st Partner on ‘Rock the Block’

Mike competed on the second season of “Rock the Block” with teammate Alison Victoria, who finally won season six in May 2025, while teamed up with Michel Smith Boyd.

Holmes now spends most of his time in a one-sided competition against “careless or dishonest contractors,” per an HGTV press release, as he and his kids help homeowners who’ve “fallen victim” to their scams or shoddy work.

After two decades of fixing clients’ homes and starring in a variety of TV shows in the U.S. and Canada, starting with the 2003 premiere of “Holmes on Holmes” on HGTV Canada, Mike brought his adult kids on board for HGTV’s “Homes Family Rescue,” which premiered in December 2021.

In a press release at the time, he said, “I’m so fortunate to have built a team with my son Michael, who can build anything, and my daughter Sherry, who is very passionate about helping people and has a great eye for design. We’re a family business that’s in the business of helping families—and that feels good.”

Produced by their family’s Make It Right Productions, the first episode of the new season will chronicle Mike, Michael Jr. and Sherry’s work with “a couple whose contractor abandoned their 1870s farmhouse mudroom addition,” per HGTV. “Holmes Family Rescue” premieres on June 4 at 9 p.m. Eastern time and is available to stream on Max.
