‘Rock the Block’ Builder Puts RTB Home Under Contract

When Hamlet Homes was tapped to be the builder for season six of “Rock the Block,” owner Tami Ostmark and her team were excited.

They even got permission from HGTV to have their own videographer, with plans to produce their own series of ‘Rock the Block Behind-the-Scenes’ videos.

The hitch? HGTV wouldn’t let them post those videos until after the season finale.

But now that Hamlet Homes has been given the green light, those videos are up on the builder’s YouTube channel, keeping the “Rock the Block” fun going just a little longer for die hard fans.

The longest video, titled “Go Behind the Scenes With Hamlet Homes,” shows almost twelve minutes of never-before-seen footage shot by Hamlet Homes rather than HGTV.

Near the beginning of the video, Tami says, “We had so much fun on the set of HGTV’s ‘Rock the Block,‘ season six, and now we’re pulling back the curtain just a little to give you a sneak peek of Hamlet Homes Behind the Scenes, you ready?”

Behind the Scenes Video Gives Viewers New Perspective

Tami Ostmark and Hamlet Homes COO Jon Southern also recently posted an Instagram Live on the Hamlet Homes account where they answered questions they’ve gotten from both viewers and people who came to their “Rock the Block Block Party.”

The block party weekend allowed fans to walk through the “Rock the Block” homes. Ten-thousand people came from all over the country to view the four homes in Grantsville, Utah, just outside Salt Lake City.

In that Instagram live video, they dropped the big news that one of the four homes is already under contract,. In just a week after hitting the market! They wouldn’t say which RTB team’s home is under contract, but they say they will reveal that after the sale is final. They also didn’t reveal a sale price

Another bombshell, even though the homes are being sold furnished and looking very much like they did in the season six finale, some items in the show were rented or borrowed just for the episode.

Get this. That includes Jonathan and Jordan Knight’s goats! The Knight Brothers’ goats actually belong to a friend of the RTB landscaper. In fact, the goats were only on set for a few days during that episode. Though Hamlet Homes did “borrow” them again for their Block Party.

The Kalama’s cold plunge pool was another borrowed item that is no longer on the property.

And since Alison Victoria and Michel Smith Boyd’s container home and the Knight Brothers’ goat barn and greenhouse were unpermitted, those have been auctioned off for charity.

Home Builders Admit Doing ‘RTB’ Was Much Harder Than Expected

Tami Ostmark makes no bones about the fact that being the builder for “Rock the Block” was harder than anyone at Hamlet Homes expected.

In the behind the scenes video, she says, “Honestly, we’ve never done anything like this and we never will again. It was hot, it was cold, it was stressful, it was challenging. It was hot again, it was cold again. Early mornings, late nights and all the chaos in between.”

In fact, in a conversation with Utah podcasters Frankie and Jess, Tami made it clear that if HGTV came calling about another season of “Rock the Block,” the answer would be NO.

But she also calls the experience “inspiring” and says it “challenged us in ways we didn’t know we could be challenged.”

Tami also talked a lot about building close relationships with some of the designers, especially Chelsea and Cole DeBoer. Tami says she still keeps in regular touch with her new friends.

In fact, both Cole DeBoer and the Kalamas commented on Hamlet Homes’ Instagram live. Cole DeBoer wrote, “I missed the live today! But you all should be so proud. You guys absolutely killed it. Grateful for the experience and the memories with you guys!”

And the Kalamas commented, “You guys are awesome! Hoping for quick sales for you folks!”

Builder’s Behind the Scenes Shows Special Birthday Celebration

The Hamlet Homes Behind the Scenes video on YouTube also reveals a special birthday celebration on the “Rock the Block” set.

For Ty Pennington’s 61st birthday October 19, the whole cast and crew celebrated with Thai food and neckties.

Everyone on the set wore a necktie for the celebration, but Tami didn’t know how to tie a necktie. So Jonathan Knight came to her rescue and tied her tie!

‘Rock the Block’ Wins Critics Choice Award

“Rock the Block” season six just keeps on winning. In a post on Ty Pennington’s Instagram account, the RTB host announced that the show just won the Critics Choice Award for Best Lifestyle Show: Home and Garden!
