“Rock the Block” season six is rocking episode four Monday, May 5. And the competition couldn’t get much fiercer, with the last three episodes crowning three different winners.
That leaves just one team win-less, but all four have something to prove. And all four are taking on a brand new role tonight!
With just four episodes to go in “Rock the Block,” season six has already been a rollercoaster ride of twists and turns in the four-team competition that pits designers against each other in an effort to renovate four identical homes just outside Salt Lake City, Utah to raise their value the most.
But perhaps no twist is bigger than tonight’s guest judges. They aren’t guests at all!
Tonight, the teams will judge each other!
In Case You Missed It
For the first time, in season six the teams are divided into two teams of “Veterans” who have been on “Rock the Block” in previous seasons, and two teams of “Rookies” who are new to the competition.
Alison Victoria (Windy City Rehab) is competing alongside Season 4 champion and high-end designer Michel Smith Boyd (Luxe For Less). The pair won the first challenge in episode one, renovating the kitchen, dining room and living room. They wowed guest judge Bobby Berk (Queer Eye) with their bold green kitchen and 10-burner stove. Alison Victoria has nailed the kitchen competition all three times she’s competed on “Rock the Block.” But she’s never won the whole thing.
Rookies Chelsea and Cole DeBoer (Down Home Fab) got the “w” in episode two. That’s largely thanks to their smart move to expand the powder bath into an en suite by adding a shower. The DeBoers hope their victory will put to rest all the “rookie” talk.
Veterans Jonathan and Jordan Knight scored their first win in episode three with their bedroom-bathroom flip. That means an extra $3,000 for them for episode four, and a much-needed extra $1,500 for fellow vets Alison and Michel.
That leaves Rookies Kamohai and Tristyn Kalama (Renovation Aloha) as the only team without a win so far.
SPOILER ALERT: This post contains spoilers for “Rock the Block” season 6 episodes 4 (May 5, 2025). Do not read ahead if you do not want to know who won.
Episode Four Features the “Toughest Challenge Yet”
Episode four is titled “Pull Design Outta Your Booty.”
HGTV describes the episode like this: “Ty Pennington challenges the teams with their toughest obstacle yet: transform a bonus loft and staircase in only 48 hours. All work and no sleep pushes the teams’ creativity, and, in a twist, the teams judge each other’s spaces and pick a winner.”
The competitors start week 4 already exhausted. And it’s about to get worse.
The show starts with a “design surprise” – when the designers find out they have just 48-hours to re-do a space. Jonathan is flying solo with Jordan gone for a previous engagement. Ironically, Jordan will be back in “a couple days.”
But there’s good news. Host Ty Pennington reveals four storage containers, each full of $25,000 worth of supplies that will NOT come out of the designers’ budgets.
Container one is full of supplies to turn the space into an office. Box two supplies a new kids’ playroom. Box 3 would allow a team to transform the space into a wellness and relaxation area. And box number 4 sets the designers up to make a gaming/tech space.
The teams have to play a new game- “Rock the Drop” – which is reminiscent of Plinko on “The Price is Right.”
The Kalamas go first and win the playroom setup. Jonathan Knight gets his top pick, landing on the wellness space. The DeBoers hit the X, which means they lose a turn. Alison and Michel are up next and score the office space. Which leaves the DeBoers with the gaming/tech area- the one space they did NOT want.
Then Ty drops two more surprises. One- they have to include the staircase. And two- they will be judging each other.
Let the Renos Begin!
The DeBoers struggle to introduce tech into their Cowboy Contemporary design-style. Chelsea declares they have to go “full yee-haw” with their game room.
Jordan checks in with Jonathan and finds out he’ll miss the whole challenge, telling his brother, “I could probably be there, in like, 49 hours.” Jonathan goes over his design with Jordan, incorporating light up salt blocks, light wood tones and low seating. Jordan suggests yoga mats and floor pillows, then promises Jonathan he’ll “make a few phone calls” to find him some help.
Alison and Michel’s Refined Rustic design hits high speed, as the pair “divide and conquer.” Alison plans built-ins wrapping the room, adding a desk and seating. Michel sees the stairwell as an art gallery.
The Kalamas are stinging from three losses in a row, and decide to go big. They plan glass railings and a plant wall for their kid space. They think about what their kids would love as they plan their design, adding a rock-climbing wall, a reading space and a full chalk wall.
Racing the Clock
Jonathan Knight gets a surprise when his “Farmhouse Fixer” partner Kristina shows up to fill in for brother Jordan.
Alison and Michel come up with some time-saving techniques, painting the trim and walls behind their built-ins instead of backing them with wood.
Jonathan and Kristina install lighted salt blocks.
The Kalamas realize their mountain cutouts are too sharp at the top to be safe for kids, and lose time rounding them off.
The teams race to the end, using every last second. Kristina has to leave before the judging begins.
The Designers Become the Judges
Episode four has no guest judges. Instead, each team has a score card. The other teams must rank their space from one to ten solely based on how well it fits their room’s theme. Whoever has the highest score wins the challenge.
Another twist, there are no alliances this week. Which means, whoever wins week four wins the full $4,500 bonus.
The teams head into each other’s homes, with the DeBoers calling Alison and Michel’s office space turned kids’ study area “the sexiest kid space I’ve ever seen.” Jonathan says the gallery stairwell makes him feel like he’s being “assaulted by art.”
Alison loves the Kalamas’ color scheme (green of course!) The DeBoers feel like the stairwell doesn’t match the room.
The DeBoers get high praise for their gamer/tech room, with Michel admitting “now I’m worried about our space.” And everyone loves the cartoon of the “Rock the Block” teams.
When the teams hit Jonathan’s spa space, they are awed by the zen vibe. And after 48 hours straight of hard work, all of them have trouble getting up from the cushy chaise lounges.
And the Winner of Episode Four Is…
The teams share their feedback with each other. Jonathan tells Alison and Michel that the color of their room made him nauseous.
The Kalamas get high praise for their rock wall and moss wall.
And the DeBoers get nothing but love for their gaming/tech room- the one room no one wanted.
Then it’s Jonathan’s turn to hear feedback. Michel teases that he’ll get revenge for the paint-color criticism, but in the end, he has nothing but praise for the wellness room.
But only one team can add $4,500 to next week’s budget. And that it’s a close call.
With 24.5 points- the Kalamas finally pull a win! And they win by just half a point.
That means each team now has a win in their pocket. Jonathan says he feels “salty” that his spa space with salt blocks didn’t win. And Alison says losing for another week has her feeling down and in her head.
But with only three episodes left, and each team sporting a win, it’s still anybody’s game.
