Get ‘Retta’ to Laugh As Ugliest Houses Returns

Comedian and HGTV host Retta is taking a new season of “Ugliest Houses in America” to whole new hilarious level.

And fans will get to see it much sooner than expected!

A press release from HGTV parent company Warner Bros Discovery is giving us a sneak peek at the new season, which is now set to debut June 2.

Warner Bros Discovery says for season six “the ugly is back with a vengeance.”

And Retta is ready to bring her over-the-top humor to all that ugly. When the return of the show was first announced last month, Retta said in a press release, “I’m back looking at ugly houses in America babeee!” And she makes no bones about why. “Look, between that months long SAG strike and the current uncertainty of the market, Mami needs the work. This mortgage won’t pay itself.”

The Season Debut Will Feature Ugly x 3

Warner Bros says the season premiere at 9:00 p.m. ET on June 2 will feature “three ugly gems in the Midwest, including a concrete cave better suited for children than adults, a former bank with a bathroom built in the safe and an outdated brick house that looks like a pizza place.”

Then at 9:30 p.m. ET in a second episode, Retta will head to the Great Lakes region, offering hot takes on “a boat that doesn’t float, a home with carpet up the walls and a property easily mistaken as a UFO.”

‘Ugliest Houses in America’ Is a Huge Hit for HGTV

“Ugliest Houses in America” has had some pretty beautiful ratings for HGTV in seasons past.

Warner Bros Discovery says 10.3 million viewers watched last season as Retta traveled the country to find America’s ugliest home, and then designer Alison Victoria gave that home a $150,000 makeover.

That makes it one of the network’s most-watched shows, along with competition show “Rock the Block.”

Retta Talks Ugly- the Sights, the Sounds… and the Smells

Retta recently sat in on comedian Tom Papa’s “Breaking Bread” podcast, where she described walking into the basement of one ugly house and being hit with a smell so bad, her reaction was, “we gotta get the *expletive* out of here!”

“It’s going into strangers’ homes, which can be cool because I’m nosy. But it’s also like ‘how long can I hold my breath?’… if you pay attention, you can see me sweating and about to pass out,” she said laughing.

But she gets no sympathy from the crew. Retta told Tom Papa she’ll look at her producer wide-eyed and get back, “we were here first, we’ve been in here longer than you!”

Retta Says She Almost Turned Down the Job to Host “Ugliest Houses in America”

Amazingly, when HGTV’s production company approached Retta about hosting “Ugliest Houses in America,” she almost said no.

“I didn’t want to do it!.. I’m not a host. I didn’t like the idea of hosting. I don’t like to be peppy, like have to be peppy. I’m like, if I wake up in a mood, it’s not gonna be a good episode. So I was paranoid about that. I’ve always been nervous about the hosting thing,” she told Tom Papa.

She also didn’t think she’d be doing it for very long. “I definitely didn’t think it was gonna last,” she laughed. But Retta says now she’s grateful it did.

You can catch the first two episodes of season six of “Ugliest Houses in America” on HGTV June 2 at 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET, and streaming on Max and Discovery+ the next day.
