HGTV Surprise: Mike Holmes & Family Returning to Network After 2 Year Absence

After a two-year absence, famed Canadian contractor Mike Holmes will return to HGTV in a new season of “Holmes Family Rescue,” the network announced on May 7, 2025.

The series, which co-stars Mike’s kids, renovation experts Sherry Holmes and Michael Holmes Jr., aired for two seasons in 2022 and 2023. On June 4, they’ll return with eight new episodes, per HGTV, determined to “make it right” — Mike’s trademark slogan — “for homeowners who have fallen victim to careless or dishonest contractors.”

Fans Pumped as HGTV Announces ‘The Holmes Family is Back’

HGTV first announced the Holmes’ family return with a social media post on May 7, telling followers, “The Holmes family is back, and they’re ready to rescue homes and restore hope!”

Fans quickly responded with excitement, including one who wrote on Instagram, “So glad they are back!! Love them!!”

Mike shared the post in his Instagram Stories, adding a GIF that said “Big News!” and Michael Jr. did too, writing, “We’re back HGTV!”

After two decades of fixing clients’ homes and starring in a variety of TV shows in the U.S. and Canada, starting with the 2003 premiere of “Holmes on Holmes” on HGTV Canada, Mike brought his adult kids on board for HGTV’s “Homes Family Rescue,” which premiered in December 2021.

In a press release at the time, he said, “I’m so fortunate to have built a team with my son Michael, who can build anything, and my daughter Sherry, who is very passionate about helping people and has a great eye for design. We’re a family business that’s in the business of helping families—and that feels good.”

The show was a hit, drawing over 25 million viewers, according to Deadline, and HGTV renewed it for a second season in July 2022. The second season didn’t premiere until the following summer, in June 2023. Now, after another two years, eight new episodes will begin airing on June 4.

In each new episode, HGTV said, Mike will team up with his kids to “rescue more desperate clients who are struggling with botched construction jobs—exposing the shoddy renovation work and then helping the families fix the problem.”

Before the second season of “Holmes Family Rescue” premiered in 2023, the family told EntertainmentNow that although they went through some growing pains, teaming up to conduct renovations and film shows together was the right move.

“Working with family is one of the greatest things because, one, in construction you don’t have a life and I never really did see my kids when I was younger,” Mike said at the time.

Sherry chimed in that working together changed their family dynamic, and that she thought of her dad as a friend and colleague.

“I think he is still my father, but at the same time I think we have more of a friendship going on which is very important,” she explained to EntertainmentNow. “I have that respect for a parent, of course, but we also have that playful dynamic with each other and I think I can probably get away with a little bit more.”

Produced by their family’s Make It Right Productions, the first episode of the new season will chronicle Mike, Michael Jr. and Sherry’s work with “a couple whose contractor abandoned their 1870s farmhouse mudroom addition,” per HGTV. The new season of HGTV’s “Holmes Family Rescue” premieres on June 4 at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
