HGTV’s Jonathan Scott Reveals If He & Zooey Deschanel Will Move Out of LA

Is Jonathan Scott looking to get back to country living? While he grew up on a ranch, Scott now lives in Los Angeles with fiancée Zooey Deschanel. His new HGTV show, “Chasing the West,” with brother Drew Scott, definitely has him feeling nostalgic for that way of life.

Jonathan Scott Shares Whether He & Zooey Deschanel Will Leave LA

In an August 2025 interview with People, Scott dished on the possibility of him and Deschanel moving to a more expansive location.

It seems unlikely, however, given that ranch life also means a lot of hard work.

“She’s an equestrian. She used to jump. So she loves having horses, loves having space,” the HGTV star said.

He added, “I think she’s not so much into the dirty work of the ranch, but she definitely is into having the space and room to run.”

In a July 31 interview with Extra, Scott revealed, “Zooey definitely is a city girl, she loves the finer things, but she is an equestrian. So she used to jump, she has been riding, our kids ride. We are definitely an equestrian family.”

When asked what he loves about ranch life, Scott shared, “It is a lot of work but it is a lot of reward. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Jonathan Scott Says New HGTV Show Gave Him an ‘Itch’ to Leave City Life Behind

In an August 1, 2025, interview with Country Living, Scott shared how “Chasing the West” evoked the nostalgia of growing up on a ranch.

“You could literally ride for days into the forest,” he recalled. “Then when we were a little older, in our teens, we built the family ranch in Alberta,” which Scott said is “very much like Colorado and Montana.”

When asked if working on the show made him want to leave city life behind, Scott admitted, “Oh, yeah. I was living vicariously through these families.”

The HGTV star continued, “I miss having that much space. And even though Zooey and I have an acreage right now and we’ve got some room to move, and we love that, it’s not the same.”

He explained, “I mean, we were right on the edge of the Rocky Mountains, that’s where we grew up. The places where we filmed — we filmed in Texas, we filmed in Arizona, Northern California, Southern California, all over the place — these were some of the most beautiful properties I’ve ever seen.”

Scott added, “And that does make me have that itch a little bit to get out of the city.”
