HGTV’s Jonathan Scott Gets Silly at Kid’s Birthday Party

HGTV star Jonathan Scott is always game for some silly fun. By the looks of photos and video captured at his son’s epic movie-themed birthday party, he had an absolute blast.

Jonathan Scott Rides a Mechanical Shark, Sits in the Ghostbusters Car

On May 5, Scott took to Instagram to share some pics and video from a kid birthday party. In the first photo, the HGTV star rides a mechanical shark, in the second photo, Scott sits in the Ghostbusters car, and in the video, he has a short-lived ride on the shark.

The theme was a big hit with Scott. He explained in the caption: “When your son wants a ‘My Favorite Movies’ themed birthday … and you get even more out of it 😂 #BigKid.”

Fans loved seeing the HGTV star living it up. Comments included, “This is outstanding. I wouldn’t expect anything less. Haha, no one says we really have to grow up!” and “Promise you will never grow up!”

One fan noted, “Jonathan, it looks like you were having so much fun! I just hope that you didn’t hurt yourself falling off the shark!”

Others shared how he and fiancee Zooey Deschanel are doing a great job as parents. “What an awesome idea for a birthday party Jonathan! You and Zooey are such amazing parents!” one person wrote.

Zooey Deschanel’s Kids Are Into Films

At the SAG Awards in February 2025, Deschanel told E! News that her kids, Elsie and Charlie, are interested in films. And Scott is very much involved in helping them with their passion projects.

“They’re really into making little movies,” Deschanel said. “They love movies. We watched ‘The Maltese Falcon’ with them the other day, and they were totally into it.”

She continued, “They love black and white films. Our 7-year-old watches Godzilla movies in Japanese and he’ll cry if it’s dubbed into English.”

Scott noted that their interest in movies makes sense “with the history of film in [Deschanel’s] family. I feel like they have to keep the bar raised.”

As for Scott’s role in their movie-making, he serves as “set captain,” putting his building skills to work.

Deschanel said she occasionally appears in or directs the kids’ movies. She explained, “I make little short films with them. But then they start doing them on their own too, so it’s kinda awesome.”
