Property Brother Jonathan Scott has done his fair share of demo, but usually it’s with the goal of reno soon to follow.
Not this time!
Jonathan posted a video on his Instagram account of his “new show.” In the video, he busts through a wall and says to the camera, “Welcome to ‘Reverse Renovations,” where we completely remove safety standards from homes nationwide. I’m your host, Jonathan Scott. Let’s get ready to flip those safety standards.”
Jonathan then goes on a rampage of destruction, sledgehammering air vents and pulling down a carbon monoxide detector, saying, “carbon monoxide detector? nah, trust your instincts!” He then hurls the detector through a plate glass window.
Jonathan also instructs viewers, “replace sink pipes with lead ones, just like the good ol’ days!”
The Property Brother then moves on to the stairs, ripping out a banister while saying, “Who needs handrails? Gravity builds character!”
He busts through a fire wall, saying “open concept, open flame!” and then bashes a circuit box, saying, “Who needs a break from safer electrical? This guy!,” as he points to himself.
Jonathan Scott’s Funny Video Comes With a Serious Message
No, Jonathan Scott doesn’t REALLY have a new show called “Reverse Renovations.”
And no, he doesn’t REALLY want you to rip all the safety standards out of your home.
But Jonathan’s funny video does come with a serious message.
In the Instagram video’s caption, it reads, “Jonathan Scott wants you to see what life looks like without safety codes.
From open flames to lead pipes, it’s a recipe for disaster.
Support safety standards in your community. Visit reverserenovations.com to learn more.”
The website the post directs followers to also bears pictures of Jonathan Scott with the caption “No, Jonathan Scott doesn’t want to remove safety standards from your home.
But Special Interests Are Working To Roll Back The Vital Protections That Help Keep Us Safe.
If this seems ridiculous, that’s because it is. Safety codes and standards have helped keep Americans safe for over a century. This video shows what the future could look like if standards are stripped away.”
Jonathan Scott Explains Why He Got Involved in Safety Code Campaign
While his love of sledgehammers is well-documented, the Property Brother isn’t just lending his image to the campaign.
It’s something he feels strongly about.
In a press release, Jonathan Scott says, “As someone who’s seen what can go wrong behind the walls during a renovation, I can tell you: safety codes aren’t red tape, they’re lifesavers.”
He goes on, “From electrical wiring to fire safety, these standards protect homeowners, contractors, and families every single day. Most people don’t realize how much they rely on them until something goes wrong. I’m proud to be teaming up with NFPA to help educate the public about the critical importance of safety codes and standards.”
