HGTV star Jonathan Scott shared his top tips for backyard entertaining that looks bougie without being too spendy. Some of his small suggestions make a big impact and are still budget-friendly.
Jonathan Scott Shares Easy Tips for Next-Level Backyard Entertaining
In a June 26 YouTube video, Scott shared some easy ideas to take your backyard parties to the next level.
First up, Scott suggested using a diffuser with lavender oil to repel mosquitoes. No need to light an unattractive citronella candle, as diffusers come in different styles and sizes. He also advised against using bug zappers because they’re distracting to guests.
“Lavender disrupts insects’ sense of smell while filling your space with a lovely scent,” the video noted.
For a fun way to stay cool, the HGTV star shared an easy ice cube idea — give them an upgrade by freezing fresh fruit in each cube for a little extra flavor and color. “It’s such a simple, subtle little thing,” he explained.
Backyard entertaining can also get a boost with some lovely table settings. “Have a variety of placemats,” Scott advised. “So if you’re doing an Easter dinner, or a birthday, or anniversary, everything can have a little bit of a different feel.” Simply use the same tablecloth for your parties, but swap out the placemats, depending on the occasion.
He also shared that adding fresh flowers to the table is a nice touch. There’s no need to spend a lot, either. “Even if you were to grab something just at the grocery store that normally comes in the plastic, it doesn’t look great — take it out of that, and put it into a nice vase.”
His final suggestion is to add placecards to the table. “If it’s a more formal party, I also like to do little tent cards and have something on them that feels custom,” he explained. “We’ll draw a little pastel flower or something like that — anything to personalize it to your guests goes a long way.”
Jonathan Scott Shows Off Cool Game Room
The backyard entertainment tips aren’t the only thing he shared recently — he gave a tour of the game room in his home and it’s absolutely epic!
“As you know, I am, I don’t know, some people say immature. I like to say, ‘a kid at heart,'” he shared ahead of the tour. “We have so many board games, so many fun activities, and this opens onto the pool, so the kids can get that indoor/outdoor fun.”
Scott continued, “Let me take you on a little tour of our game room.”
Highlights included a fortune teller machine, air hockey table, arcade games, and a customized Whac-A-Mole game.
