Months after wrapping up New Kids on the Block’s summer 2024 tour, Jonathan Knight can finally put the gifts he received from fans to good use. On March 30, 2025, the HGTV star revealed he’s in the throes of planning a huge wildflower garden, using seed packets fans gave him after he requested that they bring him “seeds instead of beads.”
Posting a photo of himself in his kitchen with the center island covered in seed packets and a gallon-sized Ziploc bag already full of them, Knight wrote, “Spent the night organizing all the seeds I received on tour this summer. I am so thankful to everyone that brought me your gift of seeds.”
“Now that it’s spring I’m weeks away from getting these in the ground,” the “Farmhouse Fixer” star continued. “I have so much seed I’m likely going to have a 1/2 acre wildflower meadow. Wasn’t expecting so much but the bigger the better, right?”
Jonathan Knight Plans to Track & Share Progress of His Massive Wildflower Garden
Knight continued his caption by writing, “Can’t wait to see all the colors and textures that will unfold over the summer and to watch the bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and all the beautiful insects that will take up residence!”
“This is such a perfect gift,” he concluded. “I will share lots of photos and videos as things start to grow. Xx J”
Within a day, more than 24,000 fans and friends had liked and commented on Knight’s post, including fellow HGTV star Jenny Marrs, who wrote, “I love this!!❤️”
Fellow New Kid Joey McIntyre chimed in, “That’s the best. You’re the best. Yeah, and I think you asked for seeds way late into the tour!”
An avid environmentalist, Knight began receiving packets of wildflower seeds after he asked fans in July to stop bringing him friendship bracelets made of plastic beads, a show of support made especially popular by Taylor Swift fans.
In a social media post at the time, Knight wrote, “Blockheads…I love all the friendship bracelets and appreciate the love,” Knight wrote in white text on a multicolored background. “However I prefer a hug instead. Feel free to give them to the other members, but consider plastic is a major issue for our environment. I want to be part of reducing plastic not contributing to the problem”
In late August, with just two shows left to go on the tour, he came up with an alternative to the beads and requested that fans bring seeds to the shows instead.
“You all know how I feel about plastic bead bracelets,” he wrote in another post. “Bad for the environment. So I’m initiating… seeds instead of beads. Bring me a packet of wildflower seeds instead to be planted on my farm this Spring. I’ll document the experience while I create my yearly wildflower garden that you can be a part of.”
Jonathan Knight & His Husband Love to Help Clean Up the Planet
Knight has stayed mostly quiet on social media in early 2025, except to share another way he and his husband, Harley Rodriguez, were helping the environment.
On Valentine’s Day, the couple volunteered in Key Largo, Florida, as part of 4ocean’s mission to clean up mangroves, which are trees and shrubs found in tropical and subtropical regions. According to the nonprofit’s website, the mangroves are critical to oceans by serving as “nurseries for marine species, protecting coastlines, filtering pollutants, and sequestering carbon.”
The organization has planted and cultivated over 625,000 mangroves, but says floating plastic debris regularly gets entangled in their roots, leaking toxic chemicals and stunting their growth and impact.
After a day of working with other volunteers to clear the debris, Knight wrote, “Happy to report we removed almost 500lbs of waste from the ocean. Looking forward to future collaborations!🐬🐢🐠🦈”
Beyond saving the planet, Knight will soon be seen with his brother, New Kids member Jordan Knight, as they compete together on HGTV’s “Rock the Block.” The hit show’s sixth season kicks off on April 14.
