Joanna Gaines Celebrates Spring With Her New Favorite Flower

Spring has arrived, but even before the official start of the season, Joanna Gaines was welcoming it in by spending some time in her flower garden, trying something new.

It’s no secret to fans of the HGTV and Magnolia Network star that Joanna has an enviable green thumb. And it turns out she likes to put it to good use trying new things.

Joanna posted on her Instagram account that the garden at the family farm is a place where she likes to experiment. She wrote, “I want my garden at the farm be a place where I try new things and stretch myself beyond my comfort zone. Ranunculus were my fresh experiment last spring, and they ended up completely winning me over when they were the first to bloom and their petals burst open in layers of pinks and oranges and creams. I loved the reminder that there is reward in risk.”

You can see Jo’s toes clad in rubber boots in the photo of beautiful pink and white blossoms that she identifies as ranunculus. Joanna says it’s her second year planting the blooms on the farm. And she’s so taken with their beauty that this year, she’s asked her team at the Silos to plant ranunculus there as well, so guests can enjoy them. And she’s featuring the blooms in the latest issue of “Magnolia Journal” as well.

Spring Has Sprung at Magnolia’s Silos

The “Fixer Upper” star also shared a video of what spring looks like this year at the Silos. In an Instagram post, Joanna writes, “Fresh blooms, live music, and the most talented artisans ✨

It’s Spring at the Silos! Come see us through April 26th as we usher in spring with seasonal menus and experiences all over the grounds”

On the Magnolia website, a blog post celebrates spring at the Silos, writing, “Season after season, the garden remains one of Jo’s favorite places and ours, too. In light of this love, the Silos grounds serve as a backdrop for botanical beauty of many kinds—teeming with flourishing beds, boxes, planters, and climbing vines.

This spring, we’re going beyond the garden with hands-on experiences to cultivate creativity and encourage honing your own green thumb. The best part? Everything is inspired by Jo’s garden and the flower varieties she grows at home.”

Destination Waco promises a fun-filled spring at the Silos, writing on its website, “Every weekend there will be either live musicians playing on our stage or artists painting throughout the Silos grounds. Buy one of their prints or sit and listen to the free live music!”

Joanna’s Love of Gardening Runs Deep

Joanna shared her spring gardening plans on her March Magnolia blog. She lists the flowers you’d find in her garden this year, including anemones, sweet peas, weeping cherry tree, wild aster, scabiosa, linaria, lavender, boxwood topiaries, and orlaya in addition to her new favorite ranunculus.

The decorator and designer says her garden is the place she goes when she needs to recharge. “If I wake up feeling hurried or anxious, the fresh air settles me. If I feel sluggish or unmotivated, the movement of all the life taking place stirs me awake. I think I’m influenced in this way because the garden is a place of evolution. It is always changing, always the perfect metaphor for life unfolding—especially when I’m willing to encourage variation in what I’m planting season over season.”
