Joanna Gaines is giving fans a rare and ADORABLE glimpse of the day her youngest son, Crew was born.
In an Instagram post that starts with a precious picture of her four older children on their knees, listening in at the delivery room door, Joanna celebrates Crew’s seventh birthday. She writes, “Seven years ago today. Happy birthday to our beautiful little boy 🩵”
The second picture features a black and white picture of newborn Crew with medical equipment in the background.
And the third picture, also black and white, shows Jo cradling her newborn son, seeming to talk to him.
The fourth picture shows newborn Crew tightly swaddled with a beanie cap on.
And the fifth and final picture may be the cutest of the bunch. It shows baby Crew wearing a onesie that reads “and then there were five” with his four siblings surrounding him, holding his tiny feet and hands.
Joanna Gaines Has Plenty of Reasons to Feel Nostalgic
Joanna’s youngest turning seven is just one of many reasons the Magnolia designer has for feeling nostalgic these days.
Oldest daughter Ella just graduated from high school last month. Joanna has been in her feelings about that milestone for a while now.
In an Instagram video posted Sunday, May 25, Joanna shows a video of Ella Rose Gaines getting her diploma.
Joanna has put the touching Cyndi Lauper song “Time After Time” under the video, which has audio of Ella’s name being announced as she takes the stage. Then the Gaines crew bursts into cheers. Just before Ella’s name is announced, the camera cuts to a clearly emotional Joanna holding up her phone, videoing the moment. Joanna captioned the post, “So very proud ❤️💙❤️”
The video ends with Joanna giving her older daughter a big hug.
But even before the big day, Joanna was talking about navigating this season of change in her family.
“I was so sad,” Joanna told PEOPLE when oldest son Drake moved out. “I couldn’t believe how it hit me because Chip always says I’m not super emotional. I’m pretty steady. But, I think just the idea that I realize that one move out with that one kid, it triggers something now where it starts feeling everything goes fast.”
And it’s not getting easier with the second one. “How do I prepare my own heart for it?” she continued, referring to Ella leaving for college this fall. “It’s like you’re losing the one that you go on the weekends to get coffee with and shop at the antique stores. I’m like, ‘Where’s my friend going?’ It’s just being okay with the shift and letting go of what was, and just being excited for what’s to come.”
The week before Ella graduated, Joanna posted a video of youngest son Crew, 6, peeking at a songbird nest on their farm. In the caption, she writes, “This songbird must be proud. She created a home and nurtured her babies and then ushered them to fly towards the big blue skies.
Praying for all you mamas who are planning and prepping for graduation.
We did our very best. They will soar.”
Joanna Gaines Is Trying to Make the Most of this Summer
Joanna has been vocal about being intentional in spending time with her kids while all five are home for the summer. In the fall, both 20-year-old Drake and 18-year-old Ella will head off to college.
Chip and Joanna Gaines also share 16-year-old son Duke and 15-year-old daughter Emmy.
The designer has posted several videos of time in the kitchen with now 7-year-old Crew, who she calls “my sous chef.”
“I can always wrangle him up anytime. He’s always by my side, so he’s really my sidekick in the kitchen, and he’s truly interested in how things work,” Gaines told Delish. “He wants to touch it, he wants to do it, he wants to stir it. So I have a little cooking buddy with Crew. If anyone’s gonna be a chef in the Gaines family, I put my money on Crew.”
