Joanna Gaines Reveals How Son Crew Inspired Her Newest Challenge

Joanna Gaines is taking inspiration from her youngest son. As her new children’s book is nearing its release, the former HGTV star shared how Crew’s thought-provoking question prompted her to create a challenge for fans.

Joanna Gaines Said Her Son’s Curiosity Motivated Her to Create a Bucket List Challenge

In a January 21 Instagram post, Gaines shared a sweet video of her and Crew exploring in a river. He asks, “Mom, what’s your favorite thing to discover?

She explained in the caption, “Right before I started writing ‘The World Needs The Wonder You See,’ I recorded a few mini interviews with Crew where I’d ask him questions about curiosity and wonder and what he loved most about the world.”

Gaines continued, “One day, he threw the question back at me: ‘Mom, what’s your favorite thing to discover?’ It was a good reminder that curiosity and adventure aren’t just for kids.”

She went on to explain how the question gave her an idea. “As we count down to launch day of my new children’s book I want to invite us all to make a little space for wonder in our week. Our team put together a bucket list of mini adventures (shared in my stories!) that spark curiosity and wonder — follow along or go rogue! I’ll kick things off… #thewonderyousee.”

Gaines shared a link to the “bucket list of everyday adventures that spark curiosity and surprise.” The challenges are simple enough, but a great reminder to stop and take notice of the beauty around you every day.

Some of her bucket list items are:

  • Snip a flower or branch and put it on display
  • Take in a sunrise or a sunset
  • Discover the joy of cooking something new
  • Take a pencil and notepad outside and sketch something you find
  • Listen to a song that makes you smile

Crew Inspired Joanna Gaines’ New Children’s Book

Of course, Crew’s curiosity and love of exploring was the inspiration for Gaines’ children’s book.

Gaines explained in a September 16, 2024 Instagram post: “Years of admiring the way Crew moves through the world inspired an idea for a children’s book all about the everyday beauty and surprise that kids are so naturally drawn to seek out and discover.”

The Magnolia empire owner added, “I wanted to write this story in part for Crew — as a thank you for all of the times he has walked me back to the richer side of life. But I also wrote it for me, and for anyone who could use a reminder that wonder awaits us too. I don’t think it’s ever too late to live with our eyes wide open and our hearts expectant for wonder✨”
