Jenny Marrs, who has been open about her fear of flying, shared that the February 17 Delta Flight 4819 plane crash in Toronto was triggering. The HGTV star noted that, with an upcoming flight and her existing fear, she is feeling uneasy.
Jenny Marrs on Toronto Plane Crash: ‘This Has Happened to Me’
In her February 18 Instagram Stories, Marrs shared a video of a passenger who was aboard the flight, which flipped onto the snow-covered runway at Toronto Pearson International Airport and caught fire. 76 passengers and 4 crew members evacuated the aircraft and, thankfully, there were no fatalities. According to NBC News, at least 18 people were injured, with 2 people airlifted to a trauma center and a child taken to a nearby hospital.
Marrs wrote on her repost of the video, “This has happened to me several years ago in a small plane and watching all of this footage has triggered fear again.”
She explained, “And Dave and I have to fly next week for work (I’d appreciate prayers!). I’m so thankful everyone on this flight is safe.”
On February 18, Pete Koukov, the passenger who recorded video of the runway evacuation after the crash landing, spoke with “Today.”
“I didn’t really notice anything wrong until the moment we hit the ground,” he said. “The wheels touched down and then all of a sudden … I just remember being fully sideways.”
Koukov added, “I was looking down and just seeing sparks and flames and whatever was grinding against the ground. It happened pretty dang quick and we were just upside-down, hanging from our seat belts.”
Jenny Marrs Faced Her Fears During a February Flight
In a February 10 Instagram post, Marrs shared how a friend’s outlook on flying helped with her fear during a flight.
“Yesterday, Dave and I were flying home from a speaking event, and as we took off, I whispered a prayer asking for a glimpse of the joy that a dear friend describes when she flies,” Marrs shared in the caption. “I love that she always says, ‘the top side of the clouds is my happy place’ (mostly because it’s truly incomprehensible to me).”
The comfort of that thought gave the “Fixer to Fabulous” star some peace and she found herself looking out the window to see a beautiful sight. She captured the view in a quick video.
“As we ascended, I opened my window shade (I usually keep it closed because I once saw the engine catch fire in mid-air, and I’ve never liked looking out since) and I saw THIS,” she noted.
Marrs continued, “When we landed, I texted that friend: I’m thankful I opened the window. I still struggle with fear and am not a fan of being high up in the air in a metal tube, but I’m grateful for this unique vantage point to see the beauty God created.”
She added, “Friends, if you’re facing something that makes your heart race and your palms sweaty today, I hope this video of the top side of the clouds can remind you that He will meet you right where you are most afraid. And, right there in that incomprehensible place, may He give you a glimpse of joy. As His kids, we can rest assured that we’ve been promised peace — a peace that covers our minds and hearts and is infinitely more powerful than any fear (John 14:27). 🤍”
