Jenny Marrs Reveals ‘Fixer to Fabulous’ Started as a ‘One-Time Thing’

Jenny Marrs is giving fans a peek at her new book, sharing an excerpt that details their early days of “Fixer to Fabulous” on HGTV. She revealed the show even had a different name before it aired!

Jenny Marrs Looks Back at Humble HGTV Beginnings

On June 24, Marrs took to Instagram to share a series of photos showing the first home renovation they did for HGTV.

“Eight summers have passed since we agreed to a ‘one-time thing’ of renovating a home with cameras tagging along,” she wrote in the caption. “After that pilot episode, we learned our show was picked up for a full season. At the time, the name of the show was ‘Almost Home.’ Two years later, the first season aired and was newly named, ‘Fixer to Fabulous.'”

Marrs continued, “I share the full story of how it all unfolded in my new book ‘Trust God, Love People.'”

The HGTV star shared an excerpt from the book that explained those early days.

“When we first said yes to filming a television show about our life and our work, we mistakenly assumed God would use the show to further the nonprofit work or to advocate for adoption. While He has done these things, our thinking was much smaller than what I now believe He had planned,” she wrote.

Marrs continued, “This work of restoring homes, this work that we love, is about so much more. We have been given the immense privilege of sharing the personal stories of the families we work with with the world. We’ve shared stories of families overcoming illnesses and deployed dads serving our country. We’ve renovated a home as a surprise for a family battling childhood cancer and have created homes for our family members, making beautiful memories along the way.”

She added in her social media post, “Thank you all for being a part of this wild and unexpected journey! (And, yes, we are still hard at work on season 7!☺️)”
