On April 27, Marrs took to her Instagram Stories to share that her friend had been out of town and she wanted to provide her with food after a devastating turn of events.
“Sundays after church typically find me stocking up our groceries for the week,” she wrote. “Today, I also shopped for our dear friend who is making the 20+ hour journey home and landing tomorrow. I wanted staples in her fridge when she arrives home.”
Marrs noted, “She left with her husband on a dream trip and she is returning with his ashes. There are no words for the depth and shock of this loss.”
She shared how the weight of the grief struck her while she was shopping. “We are all grieving so hard and today, in the grocery aisle, I couldn’t hold back the tears. Thank you to the kind lady who was so gracious to me.”
Marrs added, “If you think of her, will you say a prayer of comfort for our friend? For her privacy, I won’t share her name but God knows.”
On the morning of April 28, Marrs shared a photo of flowers in her car’s front seat and thanked her fans for supporting her grieving friend. “One more hour until she lands,” the HGTV star wrote. “Thank you all for praying.”
On April 29, she shared more in her Instagram Stories, writing, “Today was a tough day. Lots of tears as we welcomed our dear friend and neighbor back home with the ashes of her husband in her carry-on.”

Dave & Jenny Marrs Celebrated Anniversary Amid Their Grief
In an April 19 Instagram post, Marrs shared photos from her wedding anniversary celebration and touched on how they considered postponing it because they were processing their heartbreak.
“This was a very heavy and hard week as we waded through the dark and murky waters of immense grief,” she wrote. “We unexpectedly lost someone very dear to our family and I considered rescheduling the 20th anniversary party I had planned to surprise Dave with last night. We were just too sad and too exhausted from carrying the heavy weight of grief.”
Ultimately, they carried on as they had planned. “But, I also knew that none of this was a surprise to God. He knew we would be sad and He knew we could hold it all — sorrow and joy,” Marrs explained. “This was the only date on our calendar that worked when I first started planning and I now know that it was exactly what we needed exactly when we needed it.”
The HGTV star admitted, “The thing about grief is it’s tricky. You can be so very sad and miss someone so deeply and you can also make room for joy and celebration.”
